N. Security Council and the African Union. Is a military confrontation likely? The threat is there. For the past month, ECOWAS has been preparing a Senegal-led military force to intervene if Barrow is prevented from assuming the presidency. As of midnight Jan. 18 passed, West African troops have been reportedly gathered on Gambia's border. There are also reports of Nigeria sending a warship to the coast. It remains unclear whether Jammeh will take a military stand or how Gambia's military will fight, if at all. An Amnesty report suggests a split in the military ranks, as at least five members of Jammeh's armed forces have been detained for allegedly supporting Barrow. The Gambian military is divided along ethnic lines and it's really unclear whether forces loyal to Jammeh will fight against ECOWAS considering how they lack the wherewithal and strength to do so, Robin Sanders, a former US ambassador to ECOWAS, told Al Jazeera .

When Barack Obama became president, the United States was a wounded nation. His predecessor, George Bush, had taken the country to war against Iraq on false pretenses, the US was still fighting in Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden remained at large. But Obama came to power promising hope, a change from the status quo and an end to wars. He started on an unbelievable high, that sang out all around the world. He had promised to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, get out of Iraq, win the war in Afghanistan, reset relations with Moscow, improve relations with the Muslim world, and to finally, solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There were successes, but they seemed to be overshadowed by the failures, and what he leaves is a polarised nation, split politically, economically and ideologically. And then there is Donald Trump. Like Obama, he was elected because people were desperate for change.

Aid workers in Serbia are struggling to cope with the numbers of unaccompanied children living on the streets. Most have been sent by their parents to escape fighting in countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. But the children, almost all boys, often do not want the help they are being offered. The fall of corporate mass media indicated by Trump's election is as important as the fall of the Berlin Wall. The challenge today, however, is to exploit this historic opening to rid the world of media outlets that support terrorism such as CNN, BBC, al-Jazeera, al-Arabyia, al-Hurra, France 24 , and others. The wall of lies has come down, and so did the wall of silence. So, who will speak up? Who will present the facts and employ new techniques to create a media that tells the truth and defends freedoms, as opposed to a media that manufactures colored revolutions. Free thinkers in Europe and the United States were trying to get their voices through the main media outlets, but the doors were always shut in their face. Some, such as Dr. Ron Paul , Vanessa Beeley , and many others persisted in trying to create alternative media outlets, but they were not allowed to appear on the mainstream media.

Issa Adro, a Hebron-based Palestinian human rights activist, the founder of B'Tselem's Camera Project and co-founder of the activist group Youth Against Settlements , told Al Jazeera's Inside Story team that: I think it's a false conviction. The Israeli legal system is supporting the occupation. As Palestinians, we are not only suffering from one soldier. We are suffering from all the soldiers who are occupying our own homes, our own cities and our own streets. I think that the one responsible for the killing of the Palestinians is not just Azaria but also the occupation and the military system in the occupied territories. It was a videographer trained by Adro who shot the footage. Adro explained that there wouldn't have even been such a trial had the video not been released and that the videographer received death threats from Israelis after releasing it.

A train full of Chinese goods has arrived in London after making a trip halfway across the world. This is the first freight train from China's Zhejiang province to Britain and it is hoped it will be the start of a new trade route from China, emulating the ancient Silk Road of more than 2,000 years ago.
