"Moonlight,'' which also triumphed at the Gotham Awards, is perhaps the year's most critically celebrated film. Across three chapters, it follows a boy growing up black, gay and poor in Miami. But La La Land,'' starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, is only just hitting theaters (it opens Friday). It has widely been seen as the best-picture front-runner since winning the audience award at the Toronto International Film Festival. While Moonlight'' is bracingly intimate, the song-and-dance "La La Land'' is a starry, show-stopping crowd-pleaser. "La La Land'' is also likely to dominate in sheer number of nomination, thanks to its lead performances, high-level of craft and original songs. It was honored by the LA critics for the musical work of Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The only film that has rivaled either in the early awards is Kenneth Lonergan's "Manchester by the Sea.

Music Interviews No Music, No Headphones': Sharon Jones On Getting Through Cancer She'd been fighting pancreatic cancer since 2013, when she took a break from touring to undergo extensive surgery and chemotherapy, Fresh Air wrote earlier this year . The cancer went into remission, but returned this year. She told Terry Gross about the difficulty of her treatment: "I couldn't sing. I couldn't get air because, people didn't realize, I was cut across the diaphragm, all the way up from right under the center under my breasts, all the way down to the top of my navel, almost." Even after she returned to the stage, she told Terry, she didn't feel like the band's dynamic performances were the same.

He came out to see Buzzcocks and I was third on the bill, and ended up getting chucked out of the venue for something or other, but he noticed me and said ‘No, give him a chance’. It really gave me a leg up – in those days it was really hard to get on TV, and it tripled my audiences overnight.” The Factory project This £110m arts venue, named after Wilson's label and dedicated to his memory, has been touted as a force to make Manchester the “cultural capital of the world.” Bankrolled to the tune of £78m by the Government, it'll be a malleable space that can hold 5,000 people, will host art forms from music to dance and provide a home for the annual arts shindig the Manchester International Festival. It's due to open in July 2019 and will surely be fitting tribute to Tony Wilson's contributions to pop culture.

They may be loud on stage, but the boys of Rudimental are rather soft-spoken in real life. Made up of Amir Amor , Kesi Dryden , Piers Agget and DJ Locksmith , the British drum and bass band is not for the weak-hearted. Their sound threatens to completely redefine live performance with their eclectic beats of funk, soul, hip-hop, electronic and drum and bass. Rudimental is not your average festival act, that's for sure. "This is where we thrive," Kesi Dryden told The Huffington Post hours before taking the stage at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. It was the fourth and final day of the raucous outdoor festival. "For us, it’s such a personal thing when you’re writing songs," Amor said. "It's drum and bass but it’s also very emotional music for us, and has a lot of sentiment to it," he said, adding, "As long as that’s always there -- and we think it’s even stronger on this album -- then people will always relate to our music.
