The Executive Vice President of Programming for Superfly, the production company behind The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, also said some headliners are booked years in advance. But he admitted there is generally a lack of female artists booked. Were very aware of the gender imbalance, Sampson told HuffPost in May 2016. We try to book the best festival that we can every year. We want the best artists out there, at every level, male or female. As Carbajal said, he isnt the first person to make a point about the lack of female artists at music festival. But the Mexico City-native feels the topic is more important than ever in 2017. What I did isnt something other people havent done before, but I find it frustrating that these highly imbalanced lineups keep showing up in times when diversity and representation are so necessary, he told Remezcla.

The vice-president found religion during a festival, but while he might not be softening his beliefs, those involved in the scene are hoping a more progressive atmosphere might combat dwindling attendanceLord Jesus, thank you for dying for me,” says a bearded man in cut-off shorts standing atop a floodlit stage as hundreds of youths look on. “Lord Jesus, you can have my life.” Teenagers in Avenged Sevenfold shirts with bandanas wrapped around their faces bow their heads and pray together. And then the double-time kickdrum drops in, the guitars start chugging, and the mosh pit resumes. This is a scene from Creation North East in Pennsylvania, the biggest Christian music festival in the world. Although obscured from much of the mainstream populace, the subculture of Christian music festivals draws millions of people together every year. Today’s bigger Christian music festivals – the Creation festivals, SonShine in Minnesota, LifeLight in South Dakota, the Spirit Festivals of the west coastmodel themselves after a God-fearing rendition of a Bonnaroo or Coachella, with live performances and DJ sets, camping and food, but with the addition of large- scale prayer gatherings and seminars for religious learning.

Music Interviews No Music, No Headphones': Sharon Jones On Getting Through Cancer She'd been fighting pancreatic cancer since 2013, when she took a break from touring to undergo extensive surgery and chemotherapy, Fresh Air wrote earlier this year . The cancer went into remission, but returned this year. She told Terry Gross about the difficulty of her treatment: "I couldn't sing. I couldn't get air because, people didn't realize, I was cut across the diaphragm, all the way up from right under the center under my breasts, all the way down to the top of my navel, almost." Even after she returned to the stage, she told Terry, she didn't feel like the band's dynamic performances were the same.

Valencia still wishes Canova had won, because Wasserman Shultz clearly had a role in drafting a Democratic party platform that was silent on occupation, by literally not mentioning it. And Canova's talk of disarmament in the middle east is like proposing banning drugs from Burning Man or Bonnaroo, big music festivals full of high people. All one can hope for is that they use these items responsibly. Even though Canova deftly but obviously dodged her essential question on Israel's nuclear stockpile, the Tuesday loss for the more progressive democrat is still a disappointment for Valencia. “It's disappointing because as much as I am wavering about him...ultimately she is much worse for Palestine and much worse for the anti-Establishment movement. She is so pro-Israel and no doubt had a hand in moulding one of the most pro-Israel DNC platforms in history.

Music festivals can be really exciting, but they also can be full of annoyances, like getting caught in a torrential downpour or stifled by unbearable heat. State Farm is helping ease festival-goers woes through its new sponsored activations. The activations debuted this summer at Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, and also will appear at the Austin City Limits, iHeartRadio Vegas and iHeartRadio Latina festivals later this year. The move is a nod to State Farms like a good neighbor legacy, as well as its new brand platform, Here to help life go right. At Bonnaroo, where most people camp, State Farm provided festival attendees with roadside assistance for their vehicles and items they may have forgotten, such as toothpaste and shampoo. At Lollapalooza, the company distributed ponchos to help music lovers cope with unexpected rainstorms.

People go to music festivals for a lot of reasons: to see their favorite bands, to spice up their Instagram feed, to sweatily camp out under the stars. But a group of volunteers came to the recent Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee for a fairly unique reason: to save uneaten food from being thrown out and sent to landfills. A group of 300 volunteers managed by Clean Vibes , a waste management company that works with dozens of music festivals to make them more environmentally friendly, spent the four days of the June festival helping to compost 230,000 pounds of food that was left over from caterers or that vendors were unable to sell. The volunteers received free tickets in exchange for their work. In addition to the volunteering help, Bonnaroos own management team works with the festivals in-house catering and food vendors to recover uneaten food instead of lumping it in with the rest of the events trash.
