Michael Deem, a physicist and bioengineer from Rice University, was first drawn to CRISPR in 2010 and has created a number of computer models to explore CRISPR's inner workings. In a new study in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface , Deem and former graduate student Pu Han found there is a subtle interplay between phages and bacteria that can change, depending upon how often the two encounter one another and how quickly each evolves defenses against the other. The study documents a strange survival-extinction pattern between bacteria and phages that helps explain seemingly conflicting experimental results that have stymied CRISPR researchers. Evolving together There's a co-evolution between the phages and the bacteria, Deem says. The bacteria are incorporating DNA from the phages, and this allows the bacteria or their offspring to be protected against those phages.

The local standup comedy scene has been growing steadily over the past few years. One of the more interesting events on its calendar has been the Laugh Die You series by Popcorn Studios, which features standup routines, skits, and musical performances. The most recent installation, Laugh Die YouThe Mob, took place on Feb 11 at the Genting International Showroom, Resorts World Genting. The show promised a hilarious look at the love-hate relationship between Malaysians and Singaporeans. Representing Malaysia was funnyman Kuah Jen Han, and flying the flag for Singapore were actor-comedian Mark Lee and New Zealand-born comic Jonathan Atherton. Before the show, it was difficult to determine who would come out on top in the comedy battle. While Kuah arguably would have the homeground advantage, Lee has a strong local fanbase due to his roles in some of Singapore’s biggest comedy films, while Atherton has been a longtime veteran of the regional comedy scene.

He also denied that Jong-Nam's son, Kim Han Sol had arrived in Malaysia and said they were all merely just “rumours”. He said no family members have come forward to identify or provide DNA samples for them to positively identify the victim as Kim Jong-Nam. He said police will refer to the victim as Kim Chol, until they can positively identify him. Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was killed on Feb 13 by two women who splashed chemicals on his face at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) departure hall. After the Alexander family were killed in a plane crash, the house was leased by Elvis, hence its name. The design consists of four circles on three different levels with lots of glass and stonework. The unusual front spans two-stories tall giving the home some dramatic curb appeal.
