' Then one day they see the monkey doing algebra and they say, 'Kill the monkey!' "It's very violent, this natural force to try to suppress. That is why we have a problem with women behind the camera as directors and producers," she told one of the "Women in Motion" forums she organises each year at the festival. Studios 'ignorant' Despite being a soap star in Mexico, Hayek's climb up the Hollywood ladder was far from easy. "Imagine, I came not only as a woman to Hollywood but as a Mexican Arab. People would laugh at me for having the dream of being able to work in Hollywood," said the actor, whose father is Lebanese. "I was the only Mexican or Latino in the drama school except for Benicio Del Toro, who is Puerto Rican, so kind of American, and he's a man. And nobody laughed at him. They were laughing at me in Mexico too for having the idea of trying to break into that market.

" It's not clear whether the Republican-controlled Congress will go along with Trump's proposal to kill the program. Even some of his allies have declared the president's budget dead on arrival, like most presidents' budget proposals. Here in Dauphin County — a blotch of Democratic blue surrounded by red Trump Country — the unemployment rate is 4.5 percent, slightly higher than the national average. About 53 percent of program participants in Harrisburg are white and 42 percent are black, according to Elizabeth Stachiw, SCSEP's project director for the AARP Foundation, a recipient of the federal grant money. About 16 percent consider themselves Hispanic, Latino and Spanish. The rest are Asian and American Indian, she said. Nationally, about half of the current participants are white. "We are not thinking about it," she says of Trump's proposed cuts. "We are focused on helping individuals 55 and over re-entering the workplace regain their confidence in order to find jobs in today's market."

Both organizations, one which tracks officer deaths, and the one which tracks those killed by cops, have equally important tasks. Being a police officer in the United States is a dangerous job, but certainly not the most dangerous. There are a great number of occupations and professions which are much more dangerous than being a police officer, the most dangerous of which is being a truck driver. Nearly 800 truck drivers died in their line of work. Construction worker deaths (mostly Latino) come in second. And there’s certainly no war on cops. There is, however, as some have called it, a staggering phenomenon taking place in law enforcementnearly 1,200 people are being killed by police every year. As NLEOMF reported , it’s more dangerous for police officers who are responding in their vehicles to calls for backup, than it is for them to be confronted with someone suspected of being armed.

But, as with any season of Drag Race, fan favorites go home. In this interview with HuffPost, Valentina reflects on her sudden departure, Latinx representation on the show and what she wants people to take away from her contribution to the Drag Race world. HuffPost: This came as quite a surprise for many fans of the show. Was it a surprise for you when it happened? Valentina: Yes, it was a total surprise. I was in a state of shock and its a moment I dont want to re-live ever again. How did it feel to become the fan favorite of the season so quickly? Why do you think you resonated so strongly with fans? I think I resonated with fans with my authenticity and my level of passion and love for my craft. I also have a really strong Latino fanbase and I think that Ive been able to captivate them because they feel that they are finally represented and see a little of themselves in me.

Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and other Latino politicians in Chicago, bands, a flotilla and a reception in the park. Some of Lopez Riveras older supporters thought neither they nor Rivera would live to see him walk free. Others, like Moses Cintron, 68, simply felt relief after supporting Lopez Rivera for at least 20 years. Cintron and his wife, Lourdes, drove in from Cleveland to see Lopez Rivera, whom he had visited several times while Lopez Rivera was in federal prison in Indiana. He carried with him a picture of an old pickup truck that he had emblazoned with messages of support for Lopez Rivera. His current truck simply says Free Oscar on the sides. Those letters have been on my pickup the last five years, Cintron said. Rivera was sentenced in 1981 for his involvement with pro-Puerto Rican independence militant group Armed Forces of National Liberation, or FALN (and was later sentenced to an additional 15 years for allegedly plotting an escape).
