You can always count on Samsung to show you a glimpse of the future. Samsung Display unveiled the world's first stretchable touchscreen display at the Society for Information Display (SID) in Los Angeles this week, and it's absolutely as bonkers as it sounds. SEE ALSO: It's 2017, and Samsung is still launching flip phones Samsung's no stranger to showing off non-flat screens. The company has a history of making sci-fi-riffic displays that curve , flex , and fold. Its latest screen, a 9.1-inch "dynamic stretchable AMOLED display," is merely a proof-of-concept prototype, but still impressive nonetheless. Read more... 28- and 6.46-inch display sizes, according to The Investor. “Samsung’s OLED shipment is also likely to be more than double at 180 million units. The two companies have recently signed a non-disclosure agreement on general conditions, including the screen size.” The iPhone 8 Design LEAKS Online Although there has been a bit of recent doubt, the latest reports indicate that Apple's iPhone 8 launch is back on track and will happen in September, and now we're seeing a leaked set of live photos of an iPhone 8 mock-up or dummy unit. According to BGR , these photos do show the final design of the iPhone 8. " As has been the case in years past, this mockup is thought to have been built using actual finalized schematics that were leaked from the factories that will build Apple’s next-generation iPhones," said the report. While the overall design language of the iPhone 8 appears to be present, the report does note that not all markings and ports are present, including the lack of a fingerprint scanner.

Enlarge T-Mobile has announced the launch of its "Digits" program on May 31. Digits is a revamp of how T-Mobile phone numbers work, virtualizing customer numbers so they can work across multiple devices. It sounds a lot like Google Voice—rather than having a phone number tied to a single SIM card or a device, numbers are now account-based, and you can "log in" to your phone number on several devices. T-Mobile says the new phone number system will work "across virtually all connected devices," allowing multiple phones, tablets, and PCs to get texts and calls. This means T-Mobile needs apps across all those platforms, with the press release citing "native seamless integration" in Samsung Android phones, Android and iOS apps, and a browser interface for PCs. The new phone number system is free to all T-Mobile customers. Customers can also buy an extra phone number for $10 or by signing up to the $5-per-month " T-Mobile One Plus " package, which is a bundle of random extra features like mobile hotspot and in-flight Wi-Fi.

Video shot/edited by Jennifer Hahn. (video link) Samsung revamped one of its 2016 hybrids while simultaneously creating a challenger to Microsoft's Surface family. Last year's Galaxy TabPro S was a thin-and-light tablet powered by a Skylake Core M processor and featuring an OLED display. While stunning, the OLED display raised questions about the longevity of the device, and the tablet itself was lacking in connectivity options. The new Galaxy Book tries to fix some of that while keeping the good parts intact: it's a slim Windows tablet, accompanied by a folio keyboard case and S Pen stylus, that's vying to replace your regular laptop by enticing you with Ultrabook-grade internals. The Galaxy Book comes in 10- and 12-inch models, but both are very different, not just in their screen size, but in internal quality as well. While Samsung managed to right some of the wrongs of the TabPro S, it's hard to make a case for the Galaxy Book replacing your everyday work device. Read 26 remaining paragraphs | Comments

Samsung has released a statement that it will be releasing a firmware update this summer that will stop its TVs from automatically switching their HDMI inputs. This will be particularly welcome for Nintendo Switch users as the feature changes to the input that the Switch is using, even when the Switch is in sleep mode. Users have reported that their viewing is being interrupted by TVs randomly switching to the Switch's inactive input, and showing a blank screen. This has led to much frustration, as the feature has up until this point proved to be impossible to deactivate from within the TV. There is a setting on the Switch where you can deactivate Match TV Power State which does apparently mitigate the issue slightly, but a proper fix is definitely welcome. The ability for HDMI to let devices control each other is really useful when utilised correctly, and makes controlling your home entertainment setup much easier, but when it goes wrong it is infuriating.

Alan Martin 6 min 50 sec ago Fitness trackers We know that not all fitness trackers are created equal. A study last year, for example, found that the Apple Watch was the most effective wearable at tracking heart rate , but it appears there’s something they all have in common: they’re pretty lousy at tracking calories burned. See related Health study finds Apple Watch has the most accurate heart-rate monitor Study suggests that fitness trackers could make weight loss harder 11 best fitness trackers 2017: The Fitbit Charge 2 is the one to beat A new study from Stanford University sought to assess the accuracy of seven fitness trackers on two separate metrics: heart rate accuracy and energy expenditure. The good news is that in terms of heart rate measuring, all seven trackers – the Apple Watch, Basis Peak, Fitbit Surge, Microsoft Band, Mio Alpha 2, PulseOn and Samsung Gear S2 – were pretty reasonable: six of the devices were off by around 5% most of the time, which is accurate enough for non-medical use.

Details are slowly being revealed for the upcoming OnePlus 5, and the latest is the confirmation of the phone packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. The announcement was made on Qualcomms Twitter, as the firm let the world know that the new OnePlus flagship will have its most powerful chip under the hood. It's the same chipset you'll find in the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, LG G6, HTC U11 and the US variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8 - which puts the OnePlus 5 up there with the best phones around. We also know the phone will be called the OnePlus 5, not the OnePlus 4, and it'll launch sometime this summer - with June looking the most likely for now. In the past the OnePlus pull has been flagship specs at an affordable price point, but rumors claim the Chinese firm may increase the price point for its upcoming smartphone. It's still likely to come in cheaper than it's established flagship rivals, but it might not be quite the same value for money as in previous years.
