Challenges still remain, including the corruption scandal surrounding the company's boss. Thank the corruption scandal surrounding the company's boss. Thank you very much, Mariko, that is the latest on Samsung. In Japan, the markets down, weak dollar, strong yen, do I need to say it again? This is how things are going generally, the Dow Jones a little bit flat, but not far off that 20,000 mark.

Mariko Oi is in Singapore, I bet they are breathing a temporary sigh of relief, for now at least, at Samsung. Indeed, Sally, I think it is fair to say that not many were expecting such strong numbers, but Samsung managed to more than double its operating profit in the last three months of last year. And that is because it cheaper Galaxy phones, which helped their profit as well.

Adding further credence to Apple's inductive charging roadmap are the consistent leaks from Asian sources that the next iPhone will feature glass casing. Inductive charging does not penetrate aluminum cases effectively, which is the material for the current iPhone casing. One reason Samsung adopted plastic material for its cases is to improve the performance of wireless charging. A major misperception among tech blogs and WATT investors is that Apple's switch to a glass casing somehow confirms the inclusion of WATT's charging technology. This is ridiculous. The efficacy of RF wireless charging (WATT's technology) is not affected by aluminum or plastic cases. Many of Apple's inductive charging patents outline the improvements Apple has made in the field over the course of the last few years and give hints as to how wireless charging could work if Apple is indeed developing an in-house inductive charging solution for the iPhone 8.

The LG G6 specs are going to make it a mighty powerful phone when it launches on February 26, but don't expect it to set new performance records. This forthcoming Android Nougat smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, industry sources have confirmed to TechRadar. That means it's running the same chip that launched with the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL last October. It still has a speedy, VR-capable processor. It's just that this isn't the latest and greatest Snapdragon chip anymore. That title belongs to the newer Snapdragon 835 chipset announced this month. The Snapdragon 835 chip is poised to handle superior virtual reality graphics, consume less power and charge more quickly. Will Samsung scoop up the better specs? There are a bunch of valid-sounding reasons why the LG G6 specs will skip out on including a faster and more powerful mobile chipset.

A lot can change in a year and the LG G6 is shaping up to look very different from the LG G5 in the lead up to its official unveiling next month. We're seeing what looks to be the first official LG G6 photo, or at least the top of the phone, thanks to a leak obtained by The Verge . It shows the front and and left side of the Android Nougat smartphone and there's a distinct lack of bezel around the screen. We already know that it'll boast a large 5.7-inch screen and a very unique 18x9 resolution, as confirmed by subsidiary LG Display. Other expected LG G6 features include a waterproof design and dual-rear camera lens to capture wide angle photos. But you'll have to do without modular accessories (everyone is okay with that) and a user-replaceable battery (that's going to ruffle some feathers). The LG G6 specs are unlikely to match the Samsung Galaxy S8 Big screens in, bezels out The LG G6 puts greater focus on design than the the LG G5, which tried to push a modular accessories gimmick that went nowhere.

Now that the results of its investigation into the Galaxy Note7 fires has been completed and reported , Samsung can fully turn its attention to the launch of one of the most anticipated phones of the year, the Galaxy S8. But dont get your hopes up just yet. It looks like it’s going to take a little longer than usual to arrive. During an interview with Reuters following the announcement of the results of the probe into the Note7 batteries, Samsung mobile president DJ Koh said the Galaxy S8 would not be unveiled during its customary slot at the Mobile World Congress show next month. Rather, the company is taking a little longer with the production of its new handset as it implements an extensive set of testing to ensure the batteries are functioning normally.
