The Denver Post on Monday said a sportswriter was no longer an employee of the paper after he tweeted his discomfort with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday Takuma Sato became the first driver from Japan to win the iconic race, prompting Terry Frei to dispatch this controversial missive: The now-deleted tweet earned him plenty of backlash and perhaps cost him his job. We apologize for the disrespectful and unacceptable tweet that was sent by one of our reporters, the Post wrote in a statement Monday. Terry Frei is no longer an employee of The Denver Post. Its our policy not to comment further on personnel issues. Heres a sampling of the comments on Twitter in response to Freis tweet Sunday: @TFrei SPECIFICALLY personal, i am very uncomfortable w your racism, xenophobia & lack of understanding of what the Indianapolis 500 is all about megan brown (@thatgirlondeck) May 28, 2017 This post has been updated to include news that Terry Frei no longer works at The Denver Post.

30pm, we’re going to get the biggest TV moment of the campaign so far, when Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn go head to head (almost) in a live TVdebate”. They are debating, just not with each other. It’s a Sky/Channel 4 News election special, where the two leaders will be taking questions from the audience, moderated by Faisal Islam, and being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman. On Friday the BBC is hosting something similar when its Question Time election special goes out. #glumbucket pic.twitter.com/jwKL1VFlg7 I think it’s absolutely right that we suspended campaigning for a time after the Manchester attack and I think people have been careful to be respectful as they have started back into campaigning. I’m optimistic about what we can achieve for this country for the future but this is a crucial election and there is a very clear choice for people when they come to that poll on June 8.

Trump, when he returned to Washington, quickly assailed news media reports of White House turmoil linked to investigations of his aides and their ties to Russia. "It is my opinion that many of the leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media," Trump said. "Whenever you see the words 'sources say' in the fake news media, and they don't mention names, it is very possible that those sources don't exist, but are made up by fake news writers. #FakeNews is the enemy!" He later added a defense of his use of Twitter, saying the media "works hard at disparaging & demeaning my use of social media because they don't want America to hear the real story!" Trump and White House aides face months of investigations into alleged ties to Russian officials during the presidential campaign and afterwards. There also are accusations from opposition Democrats that Trump has tried to obstruct justice and curtail the probes.
