This was the unexploded 50kg device found earlier in the afternoon in the River Thames. The Royal Navy were called in. "This individual is not related to any counter-terrorism or any terrorism-related activities," said Graham Ashton, chief commissioner for the state of Victoria. "He is not on our books as having any connection with terrorism and we're not regarding this as a terrorism-related incident. "What we do know of the person is there is an extensive family violence history involved." Three people were killed at different locations on Bourke Street, a man and a woman in their 30s and a child whose age was not given for privacy reasons, Ashton said. A fourth person was confirmed dead by police late Friday, but their age and gender were not released. Fifteen others were hurt. Five were in a critical condition, including an infant, he added. The Royal Children's Hospital said it was treating three children aged three months, two years and nine years. A fourth child aged 13 was treated and discharged late Friday.

The school, the first of its kind in Palestine, has wedged a sliver of hope in an otherwise bleak atmosphere. Here, children suffering from cancer and kidney disease, and who are usually forced to miss out on years of schoolwork, are able to continue their education for free while undergoing treatment. Inside the small classroom, the walls are dotted with children's posters that read our future is ahead of us and thank you to the best school in Augusta Victoria. Alongside hang hand-drawn renditions of the Palestinian flag, colourful houses and bird ... For the close to five million Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, the importance of the Augusta Victoria Hospital cannot be overstated. It is the only hospital in the occupied Palestinian territories that Israel has permitted to provide radiation therapy for cancer patients.

Authorities in the state of Victoria confirmed one of the victims was a young child, but have not yet released names. "Police have arrested the driver, and say it was a deliberate act, but not linked to terrorism in any way," The Guardian says. Officers reportedly shot and wounded the man before his arrest. The suspect, a 26-year-old whose identification is not yet known, had allegedly taken a woman hostage after stabbing his brother, officials said. The woman reportedly managed to escape before the car crashed into the shoppers. Police called off the chase before it reached the city centre due to safety concerns.
