(MANCHESTER, Conn.) Some residents of a Connecticut neighborhood aren't receiving their mail at home anymore because a local dog is reportedly biting the mailmen. A notice obtained by WVIT-TV ( http://bit.ly/2pgpnBX ) from a local post office says that, due to repeated attacks on letter carriers by a local dog, the postal service will now only deliver mail in a Manchester neighborhood curbside or to the post office. The letter explains that the move is needed so mailmen won't have to get out of their vehicles and risk a possible dog attack. Manchester resident Michael Varni says he'll have to go to the post office to get his mail until he installs a mailbox on the side of the road. Police say they have no knowledge of any incidents involving dog attacks in the neighborhood.

A total of 127 police staff in Devon and Cornwall were spat at on duty while 60 suffered bites. But police have continued to resist calls for spit hoods to be introduced, amid concerns for the dignity of detainees. Senior officers are believed to be worried about perceptions that the force was treating detainees along the lines of terror suspects in Guantanamo Bay. Devon and...

An unmanned NASA spacecraft, Cassini, is poised to plunge into the gap between Saturn and its rings, a pioneering journey that could offer an unprecedented view of the sixth planet from the Sun. The first of the spaceship's 22 deep dives between Saturn and its innermost ring is scheduled for April 26 at 5:00 am Florida time (0900 GMT), NASA said. Then comes a nail-biting wait. Communications with the spacecraft will go dark during the dive and for about a day afterward, while it makes scientific observations of the planet. If Cassini survives the trip, it could make radio contact with Earth as early as 3:05 am (0705 GMT) on April 27. "Images and other data are expected to begin flowing in shortly after communication is established," NASA said. Cassini is a 20-year-old joint mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency.

I know this because my wife is from Romania and her father was one of the unsung heroes of the revolution there in 1989. Romania has a history of picking the wrong side, and EU membership did about as much for Romanians as their brothers and sisters in separated Moldova. In Hungary the recent visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin sent western mainstream media on a rant. But the fact the Hungarian economy has been hammered by the food embargo introduced by the Kremlin in response to US and EU sanctions against Moscow is but one sour note on EU policies in the region. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Hungary, Peter Szijjarto told Kommersant the other day: “According to our estimates, the loss of profit for Hungary amounts to $6.5 billion over the last three years. We are speaking about exports. Given that the annual volume of Hungarian exports is about $90 billion, the losses are biting,” Hungary’s recent overtures toward Russia are freaking the parliamentarians in Brussels out at the same time leaders like Germany’s Angela Merkel try and come to grips with thawing of relations between Moscow and Washington under U.

A Shepton Mallet man who allegedly punched a male and grappled him to the floor was then said to have bitten the complainant's partner when she tried to intervene. When they managed to throw him out of the property he began tearing tiles off the porch and throwing them at the front door and window. Ryan Wyn Thomas, 29, of Christopher Way, Shepton Mallet, appeared in the dock before Somerset Magistrates, sitting at Yeovil. He pleaded not guilty to assaulting Neil Richardson by beating him...

Newcastle experienced a wobble earlier this month with the finishing line in sight and one point from their previous three matches had some fans biting their nails. But if there were any nerves on the part of the players they were well hidden as they got off to the best possible starts, taking the lead on seven minutes through Ayoze Perez. Jordan Hugill then levelled for Preston but Christian Atsu restored the Magpies' lead on the stroke of half-time and after the break the hosts made sure of the victory after Preston defender Paul Gallagher was sent off for handball on the line and Matt Richie scored from the spor before Perez wrapped up the scoring with his second of the night. The victory, in front of 50,000 fans, is another feather in the cap of Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, who took over at the club towards the end of last season. Unable to prevent the club slipping out of the Premier League, he decided to remain in charge and his reward is a return to the top flight of English football, a place he knows well through his six years at Liverpool.
