Firms and workers from other nations need not apply! Weeks later, he in effect bullied Ford into putting a stop on building works at the company’s now abandoned vehicle plant in Mexico. Not content with this, he’s even warning Toyota (a Japanese firm!) that it too must think carefully before ‘exportingUS auto workersjobs south of the border. Trump is certainly hinting tariffs or financial penalties might be dumped on some cars by GM, Ford and Chrysler/ Fiat if they’re built in Mexico, forcing Ford’s decision to abandon its latest Mexican factory/recruitment programme and bring those jobs ‘back home’ to the US. DJ doesnt like ‘US auto workersjobs’ going to Canada, either. Put another way, he’s keen on preserving and creating vehicle production roles in North America – well, as long as they’re inside the bit known as the US. • Best American cars of all time Why should we care? Because DJ’s next nationalistic step might be to object to US jobs being ‘exported’ to, for example, Italy, where Chrysler/Fiat recently started buildingAmericanJeeps .

Joe Biden also leaving there. You see Donald Trump in the Capitol Building. He will be going off to a celebratory lunch for the new President with his wife. Meanwhile, of course, Barack Obama will be going off to a new life in retirement. Jon, quite a speech. Quite a speech and I think we've heard so often an inaugural address that is very carefully modulated and a conciliatory speech.

Checks and balances slow things down. They're sort of like bias and variance . You want to tune your system so that it adapts to change...but if it responds too quickly you can get instability and overfitting. You want your government to respond to the people and to changing circumstances, but not pivot abruptly on every whim. Direct democracy can be a double-edged sword. Brexit, Proposition 13 4 . Sometimes you need to patch code pretty quickly and you accumulate technical debt , expedient solutions which need to be more carefully implemented later, or create maintenance and other problems in the long run. Hard cases make bad law ...the solution that seems just in a complex case doesn't always generalize. You don't want to optimize code too much for the current use case, you need to be flexible. And you need laws that reflect universal principles.

" Myth #5: We want to keep our kids supervised because of the risks they are exposed to. Nope. We supervise them closely because we find it immoral to do otherwise. It has nothing to do with the actual risks the kids face. As Ashley Thomas and her team carefully researched with an experiment, our brain muddles up the two, morals and risk perception. The less morally acceptable we find the reason why a child is left alone, the more at risk we believe the child is. This is not to say that there are no risks out there. I am not in the camp of 'let the kids be in the street alone all day, like it used to be'. Yes, it used to be the case, and I had collected two concussions by age 6, while my 6 year old today has never had one. But we do need to take a step back and realize our risk perceptions are out of whack. Kids need enough unsupervised freedom to develop their own life skills.

By Mac Slavo Could there be a crash coming in 2017? Will increasing interest rates at the Federal Reserve trigger the beginning of the end? It is possible, but not certain. It will fall, perhaps, after a new sense of normal sets in, and some become comfortable with the change in leadership, and accustomed to drowning out the opposition yelling noisily from the other side. Expectations have been set for a growing economy, fresh infrastructure and new hopes for the average worker. But getting too comfortable would be a huge mistake. All that could prove to be a mirage. And things could come crashing down. On Friday, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 45th President, and all eyes will be on his first 100 days as he demonstrates what kind of president he will be, and his cabinet takes action. But even with the best intentions and carefully laid plans, there is no telling at this point how firmly he will be tested, and what kind of crisis America will have to endure during his first term.

Reactive tactics are not a strategy and are much riskier when the time isnt taken to research and measure potential outcomes. Strategic marketing looks months ahead of the current situation, planning well in advance so you have time to research, plan, create assets, review and deploy effectively. Take the Time to Calculate Risks Throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks is not strategic thinking. That’s just hoping you’ll get lucky with results, and it’s incredibly wasteful especially if you have limited resources. Strategic marketers look forward and can often see the repercussions of their plans more clearly than tactical marketers. They also dont charge blindly forward because an idea sounds good. They take the time to carefully consider the downside of every action. “What happens if this or that happens after we execute. Can we live with outcomes X, Y or Z?” Weighing the risks of campaigns and potential outcomes provides insight into next steps.

So, I think that may be a triggering device to some genetic factor. I dont know what the background is. But the health service of America kind of adopted me as a target. We were the only family in the world for a number of years that was known to have pancreatic cancer deaths in four members. And so I have escaped it so far, thank goodness. In the same interview, Carter attributed his long life to luck and a good health regimen. I think a lot is just luck, he said. And a lot of it is the fact that Rosalynn and I live a very carefully orchestrated life of proper diet and a lot of exercise. But some of my family members have also had proper diet and a lot of exercise. So, I would say luck.

WASHINGTON President-elect Donald Trump, and his wife, Melania, were greeted on the steps of the White House on Jan. 20 by President Obama and first lady Michelle as part of the carefully choreographed ritual of the peaceful transfer of power that culminates at noon with Trump's swearing-in as the 45th president of the United States. Trump stepped from a black limo to shake Obama's hand and embrace the first lady. He then saluted a nearby military aide. With the two wives embracing, the four turned to pose briefly for photos. Obama, smiling broadly, waved then ushered the Trumps inside for tea and coffee on the South Portico. Read more here. You may have noticed that our content this week shifted forward a day we took Monday off to honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Then on Tuesday, we started talking a lot about connections especially the connection with our audiences. Brian kicked things off with a post about one of my favorite topics our ability to attract the kind of customers and clients we want , by thinking carefully about the type of messages we create. The first step is to get very clear about who your people are (and aren't). Brian has some specific exercises for you on how to do that. Fear is the great enemy of connection. On Wednesday, I offered from my viewpoint as a lifelong coward some ideas about how to find the courage to be more genuine and how to handle some of those tricky days in a healthy way. On Thursday, Robert Bruce, who's been working hard behind the scenes at Rainmaker FM, emerged to break his long, public silence.

Here’s Jennifer Low, registered dietitian and British Dietetic Association spokesperson, with the sushi’s nutritional highlights. “If you choose ones that have oily fish you will be having some omega-3 fats, which are one of the healthy fats we should all be eating more of. Also some will contain vegetables, although often not enough to make a whole portion of your five-a-day.” And the bad? “Watch the salt content, especially if you like to add soy sauce. If you’re having it at home or at work I’d consider buying a lower salt soy sauce and using it sparingly. “Also, some of the pre-packed sushi has a lot of sugar as sushi is typically made with sushi vinegar, which has sugar added to it.” So salt and sugar need to be monitored carefully. We also might do well to take a lesson from the Japanese, who tend to eat more sashimi, which is just the omega-3 rich raw fish, rather the sushi rolls common on Western menus.

It’s anyone’s guess what Trump might do to embarrass intransigent foreign leaders, or what late-night or early-morning tweetstorms might erupt from the White House if he senses hypocrisy from an ally—or what will happen when a president whose family will still control his complex business empire has access to important geopolitical developments or early market data. The Kill List One of the relatively new powers of the presidency is the ability to sign off on strikes from Predator and Reaper drones run by the CIA and the Pentagon. While political assassination is forbidden by Executive Order 12333, Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush have enjoyed wide latitude in designating suspected terrorists for lethal strikes in areas like Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan. The exact process for such “kineticattacks, never publicly revealed in depth and not beholden to any judicial oversight, will be explained carefully to the new president.

You've got an Android device, either because you didn't want, or couldn't afford, an iPhone - and in years past that meant you had to live with substandard apps. Thankfully, those days are well and truly over, with reams of great little programs standing toe to toe with the best Apple's App Store has to offer. What's the best phone of 2017? Admittedly, the huge quantity of apps doesn't mean they're all quality - far from it in fact. To make sure you never install a duff app here's our selection of the best you should install right now - each one carefully chosen to ensure you'll have a whole suite of fun, engaging and, dammit, useful apps on your phone or tablet. If you're on the hunt for a new messaging app you could do worse than Google Allo , which has most of the basics plus a few features that you won't get elsewhere. Smart Reply, one of the standout features of Allo, suggests responses to messages and photos, learning how you talk over time, so you can send authentic responses without having to type - though it does seem a little impersonal.

Despite a politically charged delivery and carefully measured statesmanship to please the domestic audience, Theresa May failed to clarify how she wants to reach the 12 points of her Brexit plan during her long-awaited speech on Tuesday. We heard how the U.K., under Mays leadership, intends to be a more global, fair and united Britain that will take back control of its borders and emerge a new outward-looking nation. But, although May's speech may have soothed at least for the moment the fears of many Brits about their future, we are none the wiser about how the U.K. proposes to achieve this transition. Indeed, rhetoric ruled the day with solutions nowhere in sight. The speech spoke to the attentive U.K. audience, but the constant repetition of cornerstone ideological principles had relatively little to offer to the audience patiently listening across the Channel.

Diplomatically isolated Taiwan looks forward to more military cooperation and high-level visits from the United States under Donald Trump after he takes office as U.S. president Friday, though both sides are likely to proceed carefully to avoid a backlash from China. Trump has said in comments as late as last week that he’s open to renegotiating U.S. policy that forbids seeing self-ruled Taiwan as its own country. China, which claims sovereignty over Taiwan, has reacted in anger, including a request that an informal Taiwanese delegation not attend Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Analysts in Taipei and the United States expect the Trump administration to work with China on its political terms - known as the "one-China" policy toward Taiwan. But at the same time Trump would build a strong informal relationship with Taiwan in place since the 1970s, especially if helpful to business.
