I'm surprised I haven't seen more hackerspaces with a piano; they're effectively free if you have a truck and a place to store it. BlenderLab in Lille While the World Create Day event at the BlenderLab hackerspace in Lille, France didn't set out to change the world with a project, they did manage to come up with a really neat digital hourglass. The body of this hourglass is made out of laser cut plywood, with the display made out of two LED matrices oriented at a 45-degree angle. Hackaday NYC [Zach Freedman] reveals his devious plot While World Create Day is a challenge for hackerspaces around the globe to come together and create something that solves a problem, that doesn't mean there aren't slightly more official events around the globe. Hackaday set up our own events in New York City, LA, and San Francisco. The New York event was great thanks to our lovely East coast community manager [Shayna] and our hosts at Fat Cat Fab Lab.

Lee Stern 25 Apr 2017 Trawl through the endless pages of car ads online or in print publications and before too long you’ll find one labelled as a Cat C or Cat D insurance write-off. Cars of this ilk are usually towards the lower end of the pricing spectrum, making them awfully tempting, but if the terms Cat C or Cat D dont set alarm bells ringing then ‘insurance write-off’ most certainly should. Car buyers seeing any or all of the above should proceed with caution. Vehicles written off by insurers in the aftermath of an accident will be classed as Category C or Category D carsusually shortened to Cat C and D. To put it simply, a Cat C or D car is one that has been written off by an insurance company on the basis that a repair would be uneconomical, and often more than the car is worth. That said, Cat C and Cat D cars often find their way back onto the second-hand market regardless.

Copying text on your phone is a fiddly business, so Google is developing a new Chrome tool that will work out which words on a web page are most useful and copy them to your clipboard automatically. It might sound creepy, but copyless paste isnt designed to read your mind. The idea is to recognize and cache specific types of information so that when you switch to a different app (Google Maps, for example), any useful text from a recently visited website will be there, ready to paste immediately. The new feature has been implemented Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary for Android, and you can activate it now by navigating to chrome://flags#enable-copyless-paste . It doesnt seem to be fully functional yet (visiting a restaurants website then opening Google Maps didn't give the result suggested in the Chromium source code comments ), but were interested to see how it will be developed in future.

A combination of better sales and lower costs helped construction and off-road equipment giant Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) race past market forecasts. “For the first time in more than two years, same quarter sales and revenues increased," said Jim Umpleby, chief executive. "We're also benefiting from our significant cost reduction and restructuring actions.” Revenues for the quarter to March rose to US$9.82bn (US$9.46bn), while underlying earnings doubled to US$1.28 per share. Caterpillar also increased its forecasts for the 2017 calendar year, with revenues now expected in a range of US$38bn to US$41bn and underlying earning US$3.75 per share compared to US$2.90 previously. Restructuring costs were the only cloud and will come in significantly higher than the prior outlook primarily due to ongoing manufacturing facility consolidations at US$1.

negotiations we need to replicate back at home through primary legislation to make up the deficit. So negotiate hard full stop my difficulty and challenge to the Prime Minister is she is taking practically every option off the table before negotiations have started and that means we are a fixed position where we are likely to get the worst of all deals. We are in a general election campaign. For people to have a clear choice that is the cat clarity of positions. The Tories are.

Bryan Bennion, of Village Street, Derby, recalls his gig-going days in the 1960s: I REMEMBER my first gig at the tender age of 13 in November 1963. In the winter, they closed the swimming baths at Queen Street and the pool was boarded over so that it could play host to bands and dancing.Faron's Flamingos were a group from Liverpool and were part of the Merseybeat Sound. A forest ranger was forced to jump off a roof to avoid being attacked by a leopard in India last week. According to India Express , a leopard wandered into the Kuruli village in the Kantabanji forest area of Odisha, terrifying and attacking villagers in the process. At one point the big cat ended up inside of a building and forest department rangers were attempting to trap the animal when it emerged onto the building's roof. The leopard then charged a ranger on the roof, forcing the man to jump off to avoid the attack. After 12 hours, the leopard was eventually captured, but it managed to injure three people, including the ranger, in the ordeal. Thankfully, none of the injuries were life-threatening, and the animal is reportedly being relocated to the Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar. Read more...
