One thing thats often missed in President Donald Trumps complaints about the US trade deficit is Americas US$248 billion surplus in exports of services like education, banking and software. Microsoft, Goldman Sachs Group and FedEx are all exporters when they do business overseas. The money that more than 70 million foreign visitors spend in the US each year also counts toward services exports. So do the tuition fees of over 1 million foreign students at US colleges and...

Part pitchmen and part policymakers, mayors have the incentives and the flexibility needed to entice Chinese investors. In a small town, every new storefront counts, and mayors are free from the paralyzing weight of global geopolitical machinations. They dont lose sleep over the South China Sea or issue provocative statements about Taiwan. Their careers ride on getting things done in their jurisdiction: creating jobs, housing, safe streets and good schools. A recent wave of outbound Chinese citizens and capital is helping them do just that. In 2016, Chinese acquisitions and investments in U.S. companies tripled to $45.6 billion. Chinese families purchased U.S. homes worth $27.3 billion ― greater than the next four countries combined . In the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Miami and beyond, Chinese developers are funding very large real estate developments on land that previously lay fallow for years; the Bay Area developments include some affordable housing .

Personal Savings Allowance This is a new allowance that arrived in April 2016. It means basic-rate taxpayers can earn up to £1,000 interest on their savings before income tax is due. If you are a higher-rate taxpayer the allowance falls to £500 and additional rate taxpayers get no allowance at all. Dividends You can receive up to £5,000 in dividends this tax year before tax is due. Inheritance Tax Every tax year you have a £3,000 exempted gift allowance. This is money you can give away without it falling into the seven-year rule for inheritance tax purposes. Even if you gave it away today and dropped dead tomorrow it would not be liable for inheritance tax. Also, if a friend or relative got married away you can give them at least £1,000 and it is counts as an additional exempt gift. If the person getting married is your grandchild or great-grandchild you can give them £2,500 and if they are your child you can give them £5,000.

Trump did not spell out how the merit-based system would work. On the face of it, Indians would make a good fit for a merit-based system going by the community's current profile. According to a report by the Pew Research Center, 70 percent of Indians in the US are college graduates. The US Census Bureau reported that in 2013, the median household income for Indian families was over $100,000. But there are other factors such as whether the current national quotas or limits on people from any country who could be admitted in a year are retained could ultimately determine how it plays out for Indians. The proposal will have to clear many hurdles. First of all, it will run into opposition mainly from the Democratic Party which would argue that it would not help the poor and the unskilled immigrate to the US and discriminate against immigrants from Latin American countries whom the party counts as a key part of its base.

Also it is a technical defence if it is not being used in an interactive capacity, it still counts as an offence if you are sat at stationary traffic, as long as it is in a hand-held capacity and you use it for an interactive function. So for example if you have got the text message and you pick it up, you just glance at the preview of that text and you are seen by the police officer, that is committing the offence.

The comments underscore the underlying simplicity of the coalition's anti-ISIS strategy, which appears to just be large body counts as a recipe for victory. Whether that ultimately works remains to be seen, but ISIS has been getting killed in huge numbers since before they were called ISIS, and territory losses aside, they have showed an incredible ability to adapt.
