The film's docu-drama retelling of that painful period, combined with a burgeoning spirit of unity for the gay community, earned it some of the best reviews of the festival. Vanity Fair called the film a vital new gay classic. Almodovar said: I loved the movie. The jury also presented a special prize to Nicole Kidman to celebrate the festival's 70th anniversary. Kidman wasn't at the French Rivera ceremony, but sent a video message from Nashville, saying she was absolutely devastated to miss the show. Jury member Smith made the best of the situation, pretending to be Kidman. He fake-cried and said in halting French, merci beaucoup madames et monsieurs. There were no prizes for the first Netflix releases selected to be in competition for the Palme d'Or: Bong Joon-ho's Okja and Noah Baumbach's The Meyerowitz Stories.

Critics called the new Sachin Tendulkar biopic "hagiographic" but fans of the Indian cricket legend loved the work that hit screens amid nationwide fanfare on Friday. "Sachin: A Billion Dreams", directed by Emmy-nominated British filmmaker James Erskine, brought out throngs of fans from the first day. It has real footage of the right-handed batsman who made his debut for India in 1989 aged just 16, but its claims to reveal the more intimate side of the icon did not impress reviewers. "Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a well-made effort, looks good, but when you reach out for something insightful, your hand closes on air," Indian Express sports journalist Sriram Veera wrote. "It's the dumbing down that makes you sigh. It's a movie (docu-feature) that you would take your kids to ... The real disappointment lies in the absence of any insights," Veera added.

The crime at the heart of this docu-drama is fictional but the judge, barristers and jury are real. It’s enlightening and utterly absorbing A man sits in court, accused of murder. Simon Davis, a university lecturer, strangled his estranged wife in the family home, the prosecution maintains. They – the lead prosecutor, Max Hill QC, and his team – are real. As are the lead defence barrister, John Ryder QC, and his lot. The courtroom is a real one (albeit decommissioned), in Newbury, Berkshire. Likewise the judge, Hon Brian Barker QC. But the defendant, Davis, is played by an actor (Michael Gould). As are the witnesses. And the case is fictional: a made up case, tried in a real court. I’m not usually a fan of documentary-drama hybrids but The Trial: A Murder in the Family (Channel 4), which started today (Sunday) and runs daily until Thursday, is an intriguing experiment. Turn up your speakers, y'all! No, really, turn them up so you can actually hear Kylie Jenner 's not-so-animated narration of her new E! reality show! The youngest Kar-Jenner sister is flying solo with her upcoming docu-series Life of Kylie , proving she has a whole lot of life to life outside the shadow of her older sibs. In the newest promo, the 19-year-old plans to break the "misconceptions" people have about her and show the *real* side of Kylie -- the one who goes to her fans' proms and contemplates the social acceptability of picking one's nose around her friends. Related: Kylie & Travis Scott Are Reportedly The Real Deal'! The social media sensation also teases that she has "two sides" -- and this show will be "a gift for my fans" to get to know the side that's not shown on KUWTK , or on her Instagram , or any of her behind-the-scenes Kylie apps, apparently! And the worst (or best?) part of the trailer is that aside from a few flashback clips, no other Kardashian is in sight! Not even a sly wink from Kris Jenner !
