We are not just going to see what the United States of America does at the moment. We might need to choose our own path in relation to these matters. I sometimes feel as if the UK is dragging its heels on this issue. Magnitsky was killed when I was Minister for Europe in the Foreign Office and so most of this has happened since 2010.

Enlarge (credit: Valentina Palladino) Apple's iPhone 7 isn't the first phone to ship without a headphone jack. But the iPhone 7 is definitely the most important and popular phone to discard the headphone jack, and Apple is dragging the industry toward a wireless future, whether we like it or not. At least the company provided its own solution, eventually: its £160 AirPods are one of the newest truly wireless earbuds you can buy. By "truly wireless," we mean they're just two buds that sit in both ears without anything connecting them. Much like other Apple technology, AirPods are not the only truly wireless buds on the market. They're certainly not the only regular wireless buds available. But again, like other Apple technologies, AirPods have a unique spin that sets them apart from the competition. Apple hopes to convince consumers that its buds are the best to pair with their iPhones, but consumers have many options to choose from when it comes to competing wireless earbuds.

The bruising Cabinet conflict is boiling over in both parties after a bitter seven weeks in session. Democrats held the Senate in session overnight three times in the past two weeks, dragging out debates on nomination battles even they know they cannot win. A bloc of junior Republican senators privately pushed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to retaliate by keeping the chamber in for an eighth consecutive week to steamroll recalcitrant Democrats, according to senators and aides. In the end, the request was deemed impractical by GOP leaders, with a bipartisan group of senators headed abroad and a building complex filled with exhausted lawmakers and aides. Votes on Cabinet nominees next week could have failed due to attendance problems among Republicans, who enjoy a slim 52-48 advantage over Democrats. But the frustration among Republicans is real.

" Though government officials have frequently spoken in public about the church, to chastise clergy for taking political stances, requests to discuss the specific recent incidents went unanswered. Members of the group who entered the San Pedro Claver church, contacted by Reuters, declined to comment. ‘Failed 21st century socialism?’ After numerous frays with Chavez during his 1999-2013 rule, the church has once again taken its gloves off, with a series of highly critical speeches and proclamations since late last year. Despite its oil wealth, the OPEC nation of 30 million people is suffering an unprecedented economic collapse, with inflation the highest in the world, long lines at shops, and basic foodstuffs and medicines running scarce. Meanwhile, the policy ramification of Flynn's departure with respect to Iran is worth pondering. Flynn followed a specific anti-Iran agenda that was not fully shared by Mattis the Defense Secretary, who in his nomination hearing voiced in support of the Iran nuclear deal. Flynn was adamantly opposed to the nuclear deal and would have advised Trump to take steps against it one way or another, such as dragging foot on implementing US's obligations, etc. The nuclear deal now is indeed safer in the US because of Flynn's exit. Optimistically speaking, Flynn will be replaced by someone who is keenly aware of regional realities in Middle East and the need to focus on the US-Iran common grounds, such as the threat of terrorism, narcotics, and instability in Afghanistan and Iraq. The range of shared and/or parallel interests between US and Iran logically calls for avoiding the kind of Manichean discourse held by Flynn, which could have infected the US policy for some time.

The American Petroleum Institute had challenged the SEC’s first version of that rule, known as the 1504 rule after the relevant section of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform bill, forcing the agency back to the drawing board in 2013. In 2015, a federal judge said the SEC was dragging its feet on issuing a new version, and the SEC was ordered to finish the new rule by late June 2016putting it just within reach of the CRA’s timeframe. Congress has already passed another resolution gutting the Interior Department’s stream protection rule that has been criticized by the coal industry. Trump was reportedly scheduled to sign that one at an event in Ohio on Thursday, but that trip has been scrubbed, and it remains unclear when he will sign the measure. The Senate is also teeing up votes this week for several others that have already been passed by the House.
