Images courtesy of Pagnol-Auto Pagnol is a relatively young brand, but one that's wasted no time in making a name for itself as a leader in motorcycle gear that blends classic styling into modern clothing design. Having already created a look that works on and off the bike —because neon-striped riding leathers stand out a little too much in the line for lunch—the next challenge was to connect the gap between 2- and 4-wheeled fashion. Their newest creation, the Pagnol M1A jacket, takes on this task by offering the flex and comfort of a riding jacket without the unnecessary features geared toward actually being on a motorcycle. The look is still there, the feel is preserved, but everything that isn't conducive to the driving experience has been stripped away or modified. The basis of the idea was to take a classic moto jacket and tweak it for a car cabin: mesh-lined sleeves, extra accordions on the back and elbows, more stretch under the arms for reaching to shift gears, things in this vein.

Having breakthrough ideas means priming your brain with lots of raw material for it to rummage through at random. Having breakthrough ideas means priming your brain with lots of raw material for it to rummage through at random. In the early 1890s, everybody wanted the newest technological marvel. Democratic and affordable, the bicycle could cut people's commute to work in half and enable them to enjoy the countryside on the weekend. Thousands of bicycle mechanics appeared as if overnight , looking to make bicycles lighter, safer, more comfortable, and easier to produce. They would tinker with ball bearings, rolled steel, differential gears, air-filled tires, and so on. Read Full Story

The start of a new year always brings an opportunity to evaluate (or reevaluate) your travel loyalties, and airline elite status can play an important role in this strategy. Last month, I took an in-depth look at the elite tiers of the three major US carriers: American , Delta and United . However, these analyses looked at each program in isolation rather than considering comparable levels across different programs. Today I'll continue my series that focuses on specific status levels. My first two posts looked at low-tier and mid-tier status , so now I'll shift gears and look at how the three programs reward their high-tier travelers. In This Post Let's start by looking at how these levels are earned and review the overall value I pegged for each one: AAdvantage Platinum Pro : The third tier in American's program is AAdvantage Platinum Pro, which is earned after completing 75,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) or 90 elite-qualifying segments, plus $9,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs).

The 300h model tested here features a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s supported by an electric motor, helping keep fuel usage and CO2 emissions to a minimum. The engine itself doesnt feel particularly potent, as it’s set up for economy, but the combined petrol-electric output of 220bhp means it’s actually slightly faster than the Jaguar on the track, going from 0-60mph in 8.1 seconds. It was quicker from 50-70mph, too, taking 4.2 seconds – three tenths up on the XE. Unfortunately, going from 50-70mph in the Lexus feels like much more of an ordeal than the XE, because of the CVT box. There are no gears as such, and the engine revs flare when you press the throttle, creating an unpleasant vacuum cleaner-like noise in the cabin while the revs build. This hurts the Lexus’s refinement, and the IS is slightly noisier inside at 70mph than the Jag, even though it will sit at just 1,300rpm at that speed.

Tom Wiltshire 20 Feb 2017 Building on growing success in WRC and R5 racing, Hyundai Motorsport has announced its latest project – the i30 TCR. Built to compete in TCR Touring Car races, the car represents Hyundai Motorsport’s first steps off the rally stages and onto the tarmac of circuit racing. The TCR series represents a lower-cost alternative to the World Touring Car Championship, using smaller cars with less powerful engines. That means the i30 TCR is fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine from within Hyundai’s existing range, and that’s mated to a six-speed gearbox. A 100-litre fuel tank ensures it should last the whole race. Hyundai i30 N at the Nurburgring In accordance with TCR regulations, the car must be two-wheel drive, weigh at least 1285kg including the driver, and offer up 330bhp. The i30 TCR comes after a successful few years for Hyundai Motorsport, thanks to success in WRC rallying with the i20 Coupe WRC (above), including two victories in 2017 and 12 podium finishes resulting in second place in the ManufacturersChampionship.

This week, we switch gears from our weekly documentary cycle for something different. This film is one of the all-time black comedy-drama dystopian classics. By popular demand... I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad worse than bad. They're crazy.

Mustaquin was known to our family. He was once deported to Bangladesh, but somehow managed to return. He falsely implicated my husband as the one who created trouble in their village just to settle old scores,” alleges Putali, now 67. Her anger towards Mustaquin, a Muslim, has not ebbed in the last 34 years. But make no mistake: Putali’s fury is directed at the immigrant, not his creed. And that’s evident in her reaction to a proposed tweak in the Citizenship Act that will consider the religion of foreigners. “Irrespective of religion, a foreigner is a foreigner… I have heard the government is modifying the law to welcome some new Bangladeshis. It has hurt me a lot,” she says, in a chat over two hours with this writer. Accord Arguments Saikia’s statement echoes the current mood in Assam, as the Central government gears up to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955, that will make Bangladeshi Hindus eligible for citizenship.

Keep the tacho above 4000rpm and the S4’s motor will trouble more traditional sports cars. Read all our Audi news and reviews here The eight-speed auto isnt as quick as the S Tronic is replaces, but the ratios are neatly matched to the engine’s power and torque delivery, although with so many gears on offer when you are enjoying yourself the steering wheel mounted paddles are your best bet for ultimate response. In auto mode the ‘box can be slow to downshift, even in its sport setting, leaving you a gear or two higher than you’ve anticipated when you want to get back into the throttle. Technical highlights Audi’s lightweight strategy plays a big part in the S4 Avant’s make-up when it comes to the car’s technical highlights. Chief amongst these is how fluid and composed the chassis is. There’s a deftness to how the new S4 Avant flows across the tarmac, feeling less leaden and one dimensional compared to its predecessor.

Enlarge With increased competition from the likes of the (mostly) free-to-use Unity, Epic's Unreal Engine isn't as ubiquitous as it once was. But the particle-heavy, real-time lighting-infused version 4 has powered its fair share of games since launch in 2005, from indie darlings like Abzû through to triple-A titles like Gears of War 4 . If you're a hardware company, getting baked-in support for your platform in Unreal's developer tools remains important, which is why the latest UE update is good news for Nintendo. UE 4.15 includes support for the upcoming Nintendo Switch , making it it easier for developers to port games to the system. The Switch's unloved predecessor, the Wii U, was never officially supported by UE4. While developers could create ports for Wii U without Epic's tools, the time and investment required to do so didn't jibe with the system's lacklustre sales.

So when he discovered a knack for comedy in college, he pursued it. If I do my job right, he says he thought, maybe I'll get to a point where I can shift gears. He finally has. In Get Out , Rose (Allison Williams), who is white, brings her boyfriend Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who is black, to meet her parents (Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford) in a tony Connecticut hamlet. When he asks if she has told them that he's black, she reassures him that her dad isn't racist: He would have voted for Obama a third time, if he could have! They arrive, and a warm welcome gives way to ominous hints that something is seriously awry. Ultimately, Chris' life depends on heeding the film's title. Sharp and sardonic, Get Out is a spooky social thriller in the mold of Rosemary's Baby . As a fan of that film, Peele says he could relate to the experience of female oppression through Mia Farrow's performance.

Throttle response isnt truly sharp until the revs rise beyond 3000rpm – the engine note hardening as it charges towards the limiter. It’s happy below this though, cruising at motorway speeds around the 2000rpm mark and never labouring, even in higher gears from tickover. The six-speed manual gearbox is a pleasure to use too, with a chunky action and short throw that feels entirely fitting for a car of this type. The automatic option is equally appropriate, though this is no slick, Volkswagen-style DSG – up- and downshifts are slow (even in manual mode) and the gearbox has a tendency to hunt, changing gear more than it really needs to. It doesnt shift down preemptively before corners either, preferring to kick down as you exit the corner instead. Image 7 of 32 Image 7 of 32 It will, however, still enable long, smoky burnouts, and it does suit the cruiser nature of the car well.
