In the past, it was just minor electricals such as airbag sensors and window motors that played up. Recalls recently have been corporate issues relating to rear suspension arms, airbags and seatbelt issues. If a car boasts a full service history, check every recall box has been ticked. Prices are always on the firm side and there are three trim levels: Active, Icon and Invincible. The Icon is probably the one to go for because it has the Toyota Touch multimedia system and a powered tailgate. These are the things that buyers will like when you come to resell. There are lots of options and style packs that beef up the looks a bit and may make a car more saleable, but wont add anything to its value. The RAV4 remains a lifestyle offroader worth considering. Provided that it isnt pushed too hard and fast off tarmac, it’s a stylish estate for those who dont want to look silly in a giant 4x4 in the supermarket car park or outside the school gates.

Alarms bells are ringing for investors and analysts bullish on Kweichow Moutai, and other Chinese consumer stocks. While the Shanghai-listed shares of the liquor giant continued to set new highs in May, foreign investors have turned into net sellers of the stock through the Stock Connect programme over the past two months, and Credit Suisse Group now says it has become cautious on the sector as a whole, concerned valuations have been allowed to outpace earnings growth potential. The bearish...

Burger King appears to be eyeing more than just business expansion this summer. The fast-food giant has launched a mock, online vote titled Who Is The King? that pits its fictional, royal brand name against Belgiums King Philippe ahead of the companys first Burger King restaurant in the Western Europe country. Two kings, one single crown, who shall reign? it asks. Unfortunately for the advertising campaign ― as playful as it may be ― its reportedly broiled more than just burgers. A spokesman for Belgiums royal family told the BBC that they have reached out to Burger King to express their disapproval of the advertisement, which features a cartoon image of King Philippe. Since it is for commercial purposes, we would not have given our authorisation, royal spokesman Pierre Emmanuel de Bauw told the British news network.

Moreover, al-Arabiya broadcasted an audiotape in which the father of Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, is allegedly heard in a phone conversation with late Libyan leader Muammar al-Qadhafi attacking Saudi Arabia and predicting the collapse of the Al Saud regime. It also reported old statements by former Yemeni president AliAbdullah Saleh revealing that Qatar’s former Emir had asked him for help in waging sabotage campaigns deep inside Saudi Arabia. Qatar’s giant media empire, of which Al-Jazeera television is the spearhead, was taken by surprise. It did not respond by issuing clarifications or retaliate in kind. Instead, it continued with its usual programs. This lent some credibility to the anti-Qatar campaign for some time. Then came the first clarification from a Qatari official after a number of hours, in the form of a very short statement claiming that the Qatari News Agency’s website had been hacked by unknown parties, and that the statements attributed to Prince Tamim were false.

A giant, spinning, doughnut-shaped mass of molten or vaporized rockcalled a synestia—may form as planet-sized objects smash into each other in space, scientists propose in a new paper. And at one point early in its history, the Earth itself was likely a synestia, says Sarah Stewart, a professor in the earth and planetary sciences department at the University of California, Davis. Stewart and coauthor Simon Lock, a graduate student at Harvard University, describe the new object in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets . Synestias form when planet-sized objects crash into each other with high energy and angular momentum. This new object opens up new ways to think about how the moon formed, and they could be spotted in other solar systems. (Credit: Simon Lock) Lock and Stewart study how planets can form from a series of giant impacts.

Until the Koch Brothers launch their own artisanal caramel line, this was my only chance to find out. So I ordered a 24-cookie assortment. Mercer is the daughter of hedge-fund giant Robert Mercer, and is viewed as the major player in her family’s political patronage, which includes ownership stakes in Breitbart news and data mining service company Cambridge Analytica. As Politico reported in November last year , the Mercer family at that point had “given more than $48 million to campaigns, committees or companies run in part by top Trump allies or advisers.” Though you wont see Rebekah as a surrogate on Fox News, she took a key role on the executive committee of Trump’s transition, reportedly making sure his pond was stocked with the likes of now-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, counselor Kellyanne Conway and once-National Security Advisor and current-5th Amendmenteer Michael Flynn.

BENGALURU: Amid fears that Indian IT has not kept pace with rapidly evolving technologies, executive search firm Head Hunters today expressed optimism that top firms like TCS and Infosys will lead the digital segment. However, it will be a long-drawn battle as global players like IBM and Accenture, which had invested very early in digital capabilities, command a lion's share of the market, according to Head Hunters India Founder and MD Kris Lakshmikanth. "Amidst fears that Indian tech companies haven't kept pace to make the shift from traditional to cutting-edge technologies to meet customer demands, I firmly believe that our top companies including TCS and Infosys, just as they made India the outsourcing global giant, will lead India in the digital business too," Lakshmikanth told PTI in an interview here. He added that industry captains like TCS' N Chandrasekaran, Infosys' Vishal Sikka and Tech Mahindra's C P Gurnani had clearly understood this dramatic change and the challenges of going digital more than two years back.

Zukri said the intense competition has slowed the average growth rate of Islamic banks in Malaysia from 15% to 20% about 10 to 15 years ago to only five per cent in the past five years. Even foreign Islamic banks such as Kuwait Finance House, Asian Finance Bank and Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia are feeling the pinch from the stiff market. "If you look at the numbers today and 10 years ago, they have not moved very much. They are merely inching their way," he explained. In 2014, three of Malaysia's largest financial institutionsCIMB Group, RHB Capital and Malaysia Building Society Bhd – were in talks to combine their business and create a mega Islamic bank, that could potentially be one of Southeast Asia's biggest lenders by assets. The three-way merger will not only leapfrog Maybank, the country's largest bank by assets, but is large enough to compete with global giant financial instutions such as HSBC and Standard Chartered.

NAGPUR: Banking on the shared mobility space after launch of India's maiden electric vehicle project in Nagpur, automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra is eyeing a capacity of 5,000 e-vehicles a month by 2019 which will be expanded further. On May 26, Nagpur earned the distinction of becoming the country's first city with a fleet of 200 electric vehicles, including taxis, buses, e-rickshaw and autos. "So far Mahindra & Mahindra has been looking more at personal segment but the usage there will not be as much as it will be in shared mobility. Shared mobility space has become very viable...suddenly, there will be a huge demand pull that will happen for the electric vehicles," Mahindra & Mahindra Managing Director Pawan Goenka told PTI. Goenka said that as of now, the company has a capacity of producing 400 electric vehicles a month which would be ramped up to 5,000 a month in two years.

You have probably been walking past these giant ornate poles for years without knowing what they are. The humble stink pipe, also known as stench pipes, or sewer vent pipes, have been a curious feature of our cities since the late 18th century, when our sewage systems were far from sophisticated. Although most are disguised as brick chimneys or metal columns looking a bit like lamp posts, some are ornately decorated with gold etchings and elaborate engravings. There is even one on the...
