Tuesday marks 100 years since the tragic sinking of the SS Mendi, which was ferrying South African soldiers to France during World War 1. More than 600 troops - most of whom were black - died when a large cargo steamship collided with the SS Mendi in the English Channel. They will be remembered during Armed Forces Day celebrations in Durban tomorrow. President Jacob Zuma as the commander in Chief will deliver the main address. More than four-thousand soldiers are expected to parade through the city. Our reporter in Durban, Simphiwe Makhanya, caught up with Major General Luvuyo Nobanda a short while ago, asking him about the preparations for tomorrow's event. Five members of a South Korean family were found guilty by the District Court of Frankfurt on Monday, on charges of performing an exorcism on a 41-year old woman, who later died due to injuries caused by the ritual. A 44-year old cousin of the victim was convicted to six years of imprisonment, while his 21-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter will likely receive one-to-two years of imprisonment. The youngest of the co-defendants, two 16 year olds including the victim's son, are likely to receive two years of probation, resulting in a return to their home in Korea, reports say. The 41-year-old woman's corpse was found in a room at Frankfurt's InterContinental Hotel in December 2015. The case trial has been taking place since October 2016.
