Other of the dead with whom he spoke, while they may not qualify as household names, nevertheless went to the grave with some sort of achievement under their belts: Olestra inventor Fred H. Mattson, for instance, or John Wesley Joyce, owner of the famed Greenwich Village literary watering hole The Lion’s Head. Only the Slaughterhouse-Five author’s courageous and impossible reportage has saved the names of a few, like that of retired construction worker Salvatore Biagini, from total obscurity. Famous or not, people interested Vonnegut, who claimed to get his ideas from “disgust with civilization” but also served as honorary president of the National Humanist Association. This aspect of his personality comes up in the Brian Lehrer Show segment just above , a listen back to Vonnegut’s “Reports on the Afterlifesegments for WNYC’s 90th anniversary.

5. Get Creative No, we dont mean a hand-made card crafted from colored paper and markers (though you could…). Pinterest and YouTube are chocked FULL of ideas on how to make anything from bath salts to useful wooden serving trays that can be made by literally anyone with a little time, planning, and effort. 6. Experiences There are gifts that also dont need to be wrapped up in a bow and put in a box, such as experiences. An adventurous couple may be more suited to a day of zip lining or a night out on the town. Often love is less about the money you spend and more about the time you spend together. 7. Stay Away From Generic Unless you are in high school (and even then, heed these are words of wisdom) avoid drugstore finds, particularly flamboyant plastic hearts, puppies with hearts and anything else that really lacks imagination. The woman in your life will equate lack of effort with a lack of love.

It has been known for decades that when stressed, glasses will form shear bands, lines that localize the strain. Many ideas have been put forward about how this happens, but now Wolynes' group can explain the phenomenon using a general theory of how glasses form based on energy landscapes. Wolynes has continued his long-running study of the molecular properties of glass at Rice's Center for Theoretical Biological Physics (CTBP), where he also develops the physics of energy landscapes for protein and DNA folding. His motivation for the new work was to see if the formation of shear bands could be explained through computations that describe how stress changes the rate of atomic rearrangement in the glass. My immediate interest is to show that this phenomenon of the shear bands, which is a noticeable thing in metallic materials, can be understood as part of the unified theory of glasses, he says.

Some of that money will go into securing your business with, say, an emergency fund among much other insurance. Take advantage of the social media and social sites In this era, where nearly everyone’s life revolves around the social media, it would be wise if you took advantage of that so you can share your ideas and get insights from and with people whose agenda is nearly if not the same as yours. The secret here is that you should not see other people in the same line of business as yours as competitors rather as tutors and mentors. You will realize that you have a lot to learn from them in the long run. Avoid negative thoughts. While using your social media to connect with like-minded people as you, be sure to engage with your clients as well. Go ahead and advertise your products or services online and see the kind of response that you will get.

To younger players or those less interested in Japanese game history, the references probably won't mean much - Octopus Dance is based on a half-forgotten Game Watch title, for example - but for Nintendo fans, they're thoroughly charming. There are also some great ideas in here, such as Donkey Kong's Crash Course, where you have to guide a little cart through an assault course by gently tilting the GamePad to the left or right; or Balloon Trip Breeze, a riff on Balloon Fight, where you indirectly guide your character by 'drawing' gusts of wind on the GamePad screen. Our favourite of the lot is Takamaru's Ninja Castle: set in a world made entirely of origami objects and characters, the object is to destroy enemy ninjas by throwing shuriken at them. You do this by holding the GamePad in the palm of your hand, aiming it at the screen and flicking the ninja stars by rapidly drawing your finger across the screen.

The next reading is scheduled for this Wednesday. Each year, about 14,000 women die in Russia at the hands of husbands or other relatives, according to a 2010 United Nations report. In his 17 years as Russia’s leader, Putin has overseen an embrace of the socially-conservative Russian Orthodox church and a rejection of many liberal ideas as an attempt by the West to impose its values on Russia. One example was a 2013 law making it illegal to promote homosexuality to children. The Church says it wants to reduce the state’s interference in family life. Marina Pisklakova-Parker, director of the Anna center, which also helps abuse victims, said last year her staff received more than 21,000 requests for help from women who said they had been subject to domestic violence. She said that if it goes unchecked, low-level domestic violence, of the kind that would be decriminalized under the amendment, often escalates into attacks causing serious injury.

Social media, blog posts and interesting/out of the box event ideas are some of the best channels and content you can use to attract a customer with CSR. On the other hand, if you’re looking to delight existing customers , consider getting them involved. Get them to join a sharing seminar that helps youths with shaping their career goals. Otherwise, organize a networking session for fresh graduates looking to enter the industry and invite your prospects to share their experiences and mingle. This way, not only do you get to do CSR, you also help your customers do good too! Some activities, like a cash donation or a company charity run doesnt in itself, fit into the funnel, but the promotional efforts for it can. This brings us to the next point, which is to… 3. Make your efforts known A lot of companies keep their CSR efforts hush-hush. We’re not sure if it’s because they’re trying to be humble when doing good deeds, but we can’t say that we wholeheartedly agree with it.

"There is an enormous opportunity to grow the sport, and we have every confidence that Chase, with his abilities and experience, is the right person to achieve this," Maffei added, paying tribute to the "tremendous success" of Ecclestone in helping to grow Formula One. "It's not been a bad day," a Western diplomat told AFP. "The delegations met, made presentations." Diverging goals? Several rounds of failed talks in Geneva saw political opposition figures take the lead in negotiating with the regime. But in Astana, the 14-member opposition delegation is composed solely of rebels leading the armed uprising, with members of the political opposition serving as advisors. The initiative has been widely welcomed, but the two sides arrived in Astana with apparently divergent ideas on their aim. Chief rebel negotiator Mohammad Alloush said in his opening statement that the opposition was focused on bolstering the nationwide truce, while Assad has insisted rebels lay down their arms in exchange for an amnesty deal. "We came here to reinforce the ceasefire as the first phase of this process," Alloush said in comments broadcast online.

Finally, there is an issue with social care and we've had a lot of talk today about urban and rural and there is a real issue of coastal.
