We've seen plenty of Arduinofied home brewing setups, and kegerators are a fairly standard project for the types of people we hang out with. What we haven't seen a lot of are home stills. There are unfortunate reasons for this. First off, distilling alcohol is illegal in a few parts of the world if you don't have a license or tax stamp. Second, vapors explode. Third, wood alcohol is poison. That said, [TegwynTwmffat's] project for the Hackaday Prize is the coolest and the safest alcohol still we've ever seen . It's fully automated, small, safe, and there are video game noises sprinkled about the user interface. The boiler for this nano still is constructed out of a keg, but that was just the starting point. [Tegwyn] removed the bottom of the keg, installed a new bottom, and coupled that bottom to a hot plate. The top of the keg was modified to accept a 2 inch brass fitting that was beautifully welded into place.

Yes, flight attendant Katherine S. may have had her authority questioned when he used the restroom quickly. However, the situation was resolved in the 1 minute he was out of his seat. I dont believe the plane moved an inch during that time. Why did Delta have to continue this saga by returning to the gate to remove him? What about him made you want to remove him from the plane? Was it the color of his skin that you didnt trust? Or the color of Katherine S.’s skin that made you trust her version of the story? When did using the bathroom become a security risk? Do you truly claim that this is Delta’s policy EVERY TIME this happens? Because, based on the events on Delta #566, we know that it doesnt happen this way every time… and, regardless of what Bryant R. says, I am sure that this occurs on a daily basis. My take-away from this experience is that I will not be flying Delta again.

Acer has unveiled a pair of new gaming notebooks, including a super-thin laptop which packs an impressive amount of power for its size. The Predator Triton 700 is the first in a new series of laptops designed to be nice and thin, yet without compromising on the power front thanks to some clever cooling technology. Indeed, at todays Next@Acer event, the company showed a slide which claimed that the Triton hit a 3DMark score of 17,000, compared to the Razer Blade 2016s score of 11,139 (although the precise spec of the Triton notebook benchmarked wasnt mentioned). So how portable is the Triton 700? Were talking 18.9mm thin (thats Ultrabook slim, albeit 1mm thicker than the aforementioned Razer Blade) with a weight of 2.6kg, and this is a 15.6-inch notebook with a smart-looking black chassis and a minimalist design.

5 hours on a charge, even with that increased power profile. Even more to the point, Acer's battery life claim sits on a QHD (2,160 x 1,440) display. Furthermore, the device comes packing a revised U-hinge as well as a Windows Hello fingerprint reader directly within the power button. The Switch 3 won't benefit from this huge boost in power, utilizing the latest Intel Pentium and Celeron chips, but will enjoy the new LiquidLoop solution. The result for this 12.2-inch, budget-priced 2-in-1 is up to 8 hours of battery life with an FHD (1,920 x 1,200) display. Both version of the new Switch come with a keyboard cover included in the price, with the Switch 5's being backlit. As for storage and memory, expect up to 512GB of SSD storage and 8GB of RAM from the Switch 5, and expect up to 128GB of storage and up to 4GB of RAM from the Switch 3. Finally, both systems are compatible with Acer's Active Pen.

Porsche quotes a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and 197mph flat out for the PDK version, and 3.9 seconds and 198mph for the manual. Technical highlights? Porsche’s engineers have retuned the dampers and revised the electrically-assisted steering to improve feel and precision. The rear axle now uses helper springs to bring more pliancy and composure – and ultimately better traction – to the rear end. Adaptive dampers are standard fit, while certain chassis settingsanti-roll bar stiffness, toe and camber – can be adjusted for circuit use. The aerodynamic package, meanwhile, has been tweaked to deliver 20 per cent more downforce than before with no increase in drag. The maximum downforce figure is now 155kg at top speed, matching the track-focused 997-generation GT3 RS. Image 16 of 32 Image 16 of 32 The latest version of Michelin’s super sticky 20-inch Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyre is standard fit in most territories, including the UK, although some markets will use Dunlop rubber.

An inch ahead in politics is darkness, goes a Japanese proverb. Not surprisingly, politicians tend to rely instinctively on family members, who they can naturally trust to steer them through the shadows. Hence dynasticism and politics have always gone hand in hand in Asia and now it seems America, too. It has uprated suspension components over the older model, but the 4 Series Coupé is still a car that majors on long distance comfort over B-road thrills. Image 3 of 46 Image 3 of 46 The rough scale of ride comfort in ascending order goes Coupé, Gran Coupé and then Convertible, with the latter proving extremely supple and refined when cruising. Of course, that means the inverse is true of the handling; indeed, a 420d SE Convertible can get very ragged in terms of body control and does understeer if you decide to go to anything like seven-tenths pace. That’s not a huge issue in a four-seat diesel open-top (indeed, in any of the Convertibles), but given that the 4 Series Coupé isnt the sharpest tool in the box either, it’s indicative of the change of direction beyond just mere badging that the 4 Series has undergone. One of the best is the manual 440i M Sport Coupé, which manages to just keep its ride on the acceptable side of harsh despite rolling on 19-inch wheels and also proves to be a progressive, entertaining steer.

The BlackBerry KeyOne release date has been confirmed as May 5 in the UK, with a SIM-free price tag of 499 for BlackBerry's latest flagship phone. If you can't wait for the general sale May 5 date (when the phone will be available in Carphone Warehouse), you can buy the BlackBerry KeyOne from today in Selfridges, London. The oddly named KeyOne pays homage to the brand's handsets of old, with a full QWERTY keyboard below a 4.5-inch touchscreen. In terms of specs you're looking at a Snapdragon 625 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 12MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, Android 7.1 and a 3,505mAh battery. That's a solid line up, but it doesn't quite match the flagship power of the Samsung Galaxy S8 , LG G6 or Huawei P10 . Where keyboard is king BlackBerry isn't going after the best phones of the moment though, instead targeting those yearning for physical keys on their handset, rather than the touchscreen keyboards which pretty much every other manufacturer offers.

Motorola has made its latest competitively-priced smartphones available in Australia today, with the local launch of the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus. Both new models sport a metal housing, run the Android 7.0 OS and even include certain features that rival phones well beyond their budget price tags. The G5 has a 1080p 5.0-inch screen, fingerprint scanner and simple conveniences like dual SIM slots, a removable battery and a water repellent coating. While it doesnt look like the most impressive phone on paper, its super-affordable at just $299. Motorolas G5 Plus seems to do have done even better in terms of bang-for-buck. While youll be paying an extra $100 over the standard model, the upgrades you get will likely impact everyday use pretty significantly. The layout and 1080p screen (5.2-inch this time) are very similar to the base model, but most of the other improvements are more substantial.

A mutant, see-through variety of zebrafish may be the key to understanding how to treat breast cancer in humans, new research with the fish shows. Derek Walsh, who oversees the zebrafish facility at the Boston University Medical Campus, says there are 15,000 to 20,000 fish swimming in the tanks there. Each adult fish is about an inch long, silver with black stripes, just like the kind you'd see at a pet store. Others, mutants called Casper, are so transparent that you can see their ovaries lumpy with eggs. One tank, labeled Fli1:GFP, holds fish whose blood vessels glow green under UV light. These marvelous mutants, and others, are under the charge of Hui Feng, director of the university's Lab of Zebrafish Genetics and Cancer Therapeutics, and they may hold clues to treating breast cancer. Although it might seem odd to study breast cancer in an animal with no breasts, zebrafish do have lungs, hearts, brains, eyes, and blood vessels that respond to cancer cells much as human vasculature does.
