Pyongyang has been known to divert fuel to higher-priority uses, such as major construction projects or high-profile political events. Gas prices can also rise in tandem with the farming cycle, when more fuel is needed for tractors and pumps. All three could apply right now. North Korea completed construction of a major high-rise residential area in the capital and held a lavish celebration and military parade last month. This is also spring planting season. The most ominous possibility is that the regime is preparing for some sort of emergency. But there does not seem to be any strong evidence of that or of Chinese action to cut off supplies. William Brown, an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and non-resident fellow at the Korea Economic Institute of America, said rumor-inspired hoarding is the likely culprit. Sensitivity to sanctions It’s unclear if prices are also rising for diesel and kerosene, used to heat and keep the lights on in city apartments and machinery working in the fields.

But will it help him learn? FOR sunny places not connected to the electricity grid, the falling price of solar panels and LED lighting promises a bright future. No more smoky, lung-damaging kerosene lamps. Greater security and safety. More ways to connect with the world—even if that involves only something as simple as being able to charge a mobile phone. And, above all, the chance to work or study into the evening and thus improve both a family’s immediate economic circumstances and its children’s future prospects. It is a tale of hope. But as a study just published in Science Advances , by Michaël Aklin of the University of Pittsburgh and his colleagues, shows, these potentially glowing benefits can in some cases amount to not very much at all. More than 1bn people around the world have no access to electricity. Providing them with off-grid solar power is something almost all development experts agree is A Good Thing. Yet the... 4 percent to Sg$14.87 billion. "Intense competition arising from excess capacity in major markets, alongside geopolitical and economic uncertainty, continue to exert pressure on yields," the company said. A rebound in jet fuel prices from last year also eroded earnings as the average price for Singapore Jet Kerosene climbed from its low of $37.9 a barrel in January 2016 to $61.9 in March this year, the carrier said. "The signs were already there that they might register a net loss in the fourth quarter," said aviation analyst Shukor Yusof of Endau Analytics, noting that profits in the previous quarters had been on the decline. "The size of the loss is quite staggering for the three months and it would indicate that SIA would need to do something drastic and radical to overcome its difficulties in the coming years," he told AFP. Noting that SIA's budget carriers, Tiger Air and Scoot, had done better than their parent airline, Shukor said this indicates "that the growth for the SIA Group is pretty much now in the low-cost segment of the business".

A MUSICIAN set himself on fire outside a pub in Memphis on Saturday and broadcasted it on Facebook Live. He then ran into the pub where his ex-girlfriend works as a sound engineer in a foolish attempt to punish her for not getting back together with him. Jared McLemore, 33, died after setting himself on fire outside Alyssa Moore's work place. The spurn lover was seen was seen at the start of the two-minute video soaked in kerosene. He then got up up and walked away, before running back into the shot about one minute later. The heat-broken man then picked up a container of kerosene and poured more of it over himself, before setting himself alight. McLemore then stood up and ran back into the bar. A witness said people in the pub threw towels and clothing on him in an attempt to save his life. "It looked like a movie, like someone wearing a flame-retardant suit," Kimberly Koehler, who was performing with her band in the bar, said. Watch the video here:

She pauses by the roadside as a convoy of Iraqi Humvee vehicles hurtles past and then resumes her daily march to the Tigris while helicopters buzz overhead. Electricity has not been restored to Sayramun and the local water treatment plant also remains offline, forcing residents to drink boiled river water. "How do we even boil the water? Until now, we're still using fire wood and small kerosene heaters. We don't have gas either," said Fathi. "We've had some bad cases... no deaths but poisoning because of the water," he said. - 'Worse than 60 years ago' - "Nobody knows about us here in this village... We just want the plant to be fixed," said Thannun Yunis, a 14-year-old boy from Sayramun. Some 70 families have returned to the village since the area was retaken from the Islamic State jihadist group by Iraqi security forces, but the lack of water is an obstacle.

Orthodox medicine was failing and so was she, from her inability to retain bodily fluids. So Dinshah filtered the light of a kerosene lamp through a blue bottle to cast blue lighting onto her body. Within three days she was on her way to complete recovery. Dinshah wrote: “The urgent straining to evacuate, which occurred perhaps a hundred times a day, abated to ten after one treatment; after three days she was able to get out of bed.” This event motivated Dinshah to develop an organized method and codification of colored light therapy from Babbitt and Pancoast’s writings that could be applied by anyone for a vast variety of diseases. He worked on this for over 20 years before unveiling his discoveries in New York in 1920, where he had settled after arriving in America in 1911. By 1924, he had trained over 800 laypersons and medical practitioners, including MDs.

NEW DELHI: Subsidised cooking gas (LPG) price was today hiked by about Rs 2 per cylinder and kerosene rate by 26 paisa a litre as government looks to eliminate subsidy on the fuel through small hikes. LPG price in Delhi was hiked by Rs 1.87 per 14.2-kg cylinder to Rs 442.77 per bottle, according to state-owned oil firms. Oil firms had last raised price of subsidised cooking gas by Rs 5.57 to Rs 440.90 per 14.2-kg cylinder on April 1. This hike came as the state-owned oil firms on previous two occasions -- February 1 and March 1 -- did not effect any significant raise in prices in view of assembly elections in states like Uttar Pradesh. Prior to that, they had raised rates by nearly Rs 2 per cylinder for eight months in line with government decision to cut subsidises through calibrated increases every month. Also, the rate of non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) was cut by Rs 92 per cylinder in line with international trends.

NEW DELHI: Prices of subsidised cooking gas and kerosene will continue to rise gradually and slowly reduce the subsidy burden on the fuels as the government has renewed its directive that allows state-run oil firms to raise prices by a fixed amount every month. The price of subsidised cooking gas has risen by Rs 22 per cylinder since June, or about 5%, while the price of subsidised kerosene increased by Rs 4 per litre, or about 27%, in the same period. In comparison, prices of petrol and diesel, which are no more controlled by the government, went up just about 1% and 3% respectively. Price of crude oil, from which all these fuels are extracted, increased 6% between June 1 and April 1. Last year, the government had directed Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum to raise prices of kerosene by 25 paise per litre every fortnight for 10 months that ended in February.

A perennial discussion topic among philosophical, possibly weed-addled college freshman is about whether true altruism really exists. Do people perform philanthropic feats out of a pure desireto help others, or do they do it in order to assuage their own guilt, feel generally good about themselves, and, much worse, to be viewedas a good person? The addition of social media visibility has only poured kerosene on the subject. And now that people are fired upabout activism following the 2016 election, actual motivation and commitment are harder to parse than ever. Over the weekend, Saturday Night Live grappled with performative activism on a corporate level and on a personal level, and delivered a master class in how not to be a good ally. The centerpiece of this weeks episode, and the sketch everyone would be talking about if it werent for Alec Baldwins Bill OReilly , is this takedown of the Pepsi ad heard round the world.

I’ve had limited success with this approach. After a few months I had a nasty sludge in my parts washing machine. So at the moment I use kerosene in my parts washer. This is not really cheap, but it is very effective. Gasoline is another cleaning fluid which works very well and is very cheap, but it’s also EXTREMELY hazardous, considering the other activities you might be doing at the same time. It’s obviously a very bad idea to leave a container of gasoline open in your shop. My parts washer has a cover which keeps fluid in, and contaminants out. I also keep sparks from my angle grinder to a separate part of my shop. If you were cleaning small parts in a couple of cups of gasoline in the bottom of a bucket, you might be relatively safe. Just dont, under any circumstances, put the dirty contaminated gasoline into ANY engine. For extra safety, you probably want to get some chemical resistant gloves, and eye protection for splashes.
