There are plenty of pictures and videos at [DaveClarke]'s site, along with a schematic, 3D printer designs, and the source code. The whole thing was designed using Autodesk Fusion 360 and 3D printed in about 30 hours and press-fits together. A very simple yet clever design. There have been some other great lamps on the site, like this blossoming flower lamp or this laser cut lamp with which also has a unique switch . Filed under: 3d Printer hacks , Microcontrollers

Refreshed city car range will gain new range-topper; it's due for reveal at the Frankfurt motor show BMW putting the finishing touches to facelifted version of the i3 , including a new range topping i3S iPerformance model that is set to make its world debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Set for UK delivery early next year, the 2018-model-year i3 receives a number of subtle styling updates that help to visually differentiate it from its four-year-old predecessor. Included is re-profiled front bumper housing new slim line fog lamps in place of the round units used today, altered LED headlamp graphics, revised sills underneath the doors, reworked tail lamp lenses, a deeper and reshaped rear bumper, new alloy wheels and a wider range of optional two ton exterior colour schemes. Technically, the new model remains the same as the existing i3 – itself updated in 2016 with a 94ah lithium ion battery made available as an option to the standard 60ah unit in use since BMW first dedicated electric car was launched back in 2013.

We last heard from New York City-based Coil + Drift a year ago , and now they're back with new pieces that feature their signature streamlined look and minimal design. Debuting their spring collection at this year's ICFF, their luxury pieces include everything from a dining table to street lamps. The Soren Dining Table is the biggest object — and features a curvy, round shape made of solid white oak. The Cirrus Chandelier and Sconce have a classic silhouette made of clear cast resin rings that will appeal to a wide range of design lovers. They added another lighting option as well — the Bishop Tall Floor Lamp, which expands on their Bishop Lamp series. Photos by Genevieve Garruppo.

A series of stylistic upgrades transforms the look of the Up, providing it with many of the classic GTI cues used by Volkswagen down through the years. Included is a new front bumper with additional cooling vents – including one integrated into a splitter element long its lower edge, round fog lamps with cornering light function and a plastic honeycomb grille insert. Above it is a GTI badge and characteristic horizontal red feature line in the space between the headlamps. Also included are GTI badges within the trailing section of front fenders, adhesive stripes along the lower section of the doors, high gloss black exterior mirror caps, standard 17in Brands Hatch alloy wheels and red front brake calipers. At the rear, there’s a uniquely styled spoiler atop the tailgate together with a redesigned bumper featuring an altered valance within its lower section housing a single round chromed tailpipe.

The vibe: Cassio is a joint venture with Londons Barrafina Spanish restaurant the spacious premises are divided into a restaurant, an indoor lounge bar and a covered terrace. The attractive terrace was full when we arrived, so we ended up in the lounge, which has low tables and seating round the outside and a bar in one corner. The décor is oddly passé 1980s nightclub, with coloured lamps hanging from a black ceiling. Small vases of flowers scattered...

Tell us about a current project you’re working on. What was the inspiration behind it? We are excited about the future of IOT and wearables and their convergence right now – it is a rapidly moving space and we are developing a number of new tools to change the way we live and how tech aids that. Do you have anything in your home that you've designed/created? My home is full of all the prototypes from projects – a lot of lamps, tables and chairs! (a few too many I think!)

Guests who stay over are frequently perplexed by our smart light setup, not helped by the fact that Ive replaced our traditional light switches with Philips Hue Tap devices, that can change the scenes, and turn on and off, smart light bulbs while cunningly looking nothing like a light switch. This is obviously a light switch. Obviously. Its meant Im seriously considering filming an instructional video to play for any guests who stay over, telling them how to switch off the lights, as well as what to do if you disturb a pile of Ferrero Roche wrappers. Until that comprehensive guide to living in our smart home has been compiled, guests are left to either sleeping with the lights on, or even worse unplugging the various lamps from the power sockets, or just physically turning them off using the old switches.

Tate Modern, London Fight your way through the spindly hordes at this huge, overcrowded Giacometti show and you’ll find a tender, protean artist who is still uniquely strange There is a figure no bigger than a pin halfway through this colossal retrospective. It emerges from a plinth the size of a frugal chunk of cheddar. You could pocket the whole object without difficulty; indeed Giacometti (1901-66) once returned from his native Switzerland to Paris with all the sculptures he had made through the second world war neatly contained in six matchboxes. No matter how tall or broad he wanted them to be, the artist said, each figure just kept getting smaller and smaller. The size and shape of Giacometti’s sculptures is both intensely famous and surpassingly strange. That is the lesson of this show . Poorly lit, tactlessly displayed and about as overcrowded as a Giacometti show never should be – 250 works, densely contextualised with drawings, memorabilia and even ornamental floor lamps – it nonetheless gives a sense of the artist in all his prodigious variety, from the pinheads to the striding giants, the thin men to the rows of tapering women, rigid but helpless on their stands.
