Senators will debate that late this month. A censure vote might not make much difference initially, because his term ends soon, but it could have more lasting consequences. The lawyer, who has served as an adviser to at least one parliamentarian, is considered likely to seek office in the future. “It is like he asks [senators] to give him bad marks” that could impede a longer political career, Senatus said. Lawmakers want details about the Haitian government’s role in the case of Philippe, captured January 5 at a suburban radio station and handed over to U.S. drug enforcement agents who’d sought him since 2005. Philippe recently was elected to Haiti’s Senate, but had not been sworn in. Philippe’s seizure triggered protests in Haiti and Miami, where the suspect has been detained. Some have questioned what they see as the unlawful extradition of a senator-elect, insisting the senate position grants Philippe immunity from prosecution.

As historians like the late Robert Sobel have convincingly argued, in context Coolidge was suggesting that the press would do well to pay attention to commerce as well as politics, and his speech included this section: Americans, the President said, make no concealment of the fact that we want wealth, but there are many other things we want much more. We want peace and honor, and that charity which is so strong an element of all civilization. The chief ideal of the American people is idealism. I cannot repeat too often that America is a nation of idealists. That is the only motive to which they ever give any strong and lasting reaction. Our new President and his team could do worse than to read those words with care.

For the first time, researchers have shown that talk therapy improves symptoms in people with mental disorders. They say it strengthens connections in the brain, with long-lasting improvements. Talk therapy has tended to get short shrift in the treatment of people who have been diagnosed with mental illness. Usually, medications are the first treatment doctors reach for to lessen symptoms of psychiatric disorders. This is especially true in the case of people who suffer from psychosis marked by abnormal thoughts. Psychosis is common in schizophrenia and some severe forms of depression. But researchers at King's College London have shown that a combination of medications along a kind of talk therapy, known as cognitive behavior therapy or CBT, not only improves symptoms in people who suffer from false beliefs, but the changes can last a long time.

That table, though scarred by many past frustrations, cannot be abandoned for the certain agony of the battlefield. Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Because this need is so sharp and apparent I confess that I lay down my official responsibilities in this field with a definite sense of disappointment. As one who has witnessed the horror and the lingering sadness of war—as one who knows that another war could utterly destroy this civilization which has been so slowly and painfully built over thousands of years—I wish I could say tonight that a lasting peace is in sight. Happily, I can say that war has been avoided. Steady progress toward our ultimate goal has been made. But, so much remains to be done.

There was a discussion about the visit of the... Of the Foreign Secretary to India and of course he is also discussing a range of issues, including regional security. Let me say that the UK Government will continue to encourage and support both India and Pakistan to find a lasting resolution to the situation in Kashmir in line with the wishes of the people of Kashmir. We cannot mediate in the process. I'm aware of the strength of feeling about Kashmir among many people in Britain and this House and I'm glad this debate has given me the opportunity to set out the Government's position.

Iran is looking to Syria peace talks next week as a chance to build on its regional clout, experts say, as Tehran, Moscow and Ankara all stake out claims for influence. The Syrian army's victory in recapturing the rebel stronghold of east Aleppo last month has thrust Tehran to the centre of the diplomatic game playing out over the country's future. The win was achieved with crucial assistance from Iranian military advisors and thousands of "volunteer" fighters. President Hassan Rouhani said this week that the co-sponsors of the peace talks opening in Astana on Monday -- Iran, Russia and Turkey -- were the only powers with the influence to turn the fragile ceasefire between the Syrian government and rebels into a lasting settlement. But resolving the different interests and plans of the co-sponsors will prove tricky. For Iran, the priority is to ensure the survival of longtime ally President Bashar al-Assad, or at least a carefully managed transition that stops Syria falling into the hands of extremists or a government that sides with its rivals in Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Seem excessive? Not so fast – the publication’s online visitors have ballooned by 28 percent in the wake of this massive increase. And The Washington Post isnt alone: between 2008 and 2014, the number of pages Google indexed had ballooned from 1 trillion to 30 trillion. So, yes, people are publishing more content, but how long is that content? While there’s no doubt that much of it is short, one-off material, much of it is much more in-depth. For example, scholarly journals publishing peer-reviewed material account for 2.5 million new posts each year. This feeds into what many researchers (most notably and first Chris Anderson, the editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine) are callingThe Long Tail Theory .” The Long-Tail Theory essentially states that, in order to gain long-lasting traction, companies will do well to stay away from a focus on content that wracks up a bunch of quick gains (short, snappy, trending pieces, for example) and focus, instead, on creating content that caters to a specific niche.
