One of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees wrote nearly a decade ago that Justice Anthony Kennedy was akin to a “judicial prostitute” – a comment that one liberal advocacy group says should disqualify him for the courts. Damien Schiff, who has been nominated for a seat on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, is a lawyer with the conservative Pacific Legal Foundation who was also a prolific blogger. One piece on his personal blog, Omnia Omnibus, discussed the justice’s role as an powerful swing vote on the Supreme Court. “What does this mean? Presumably we are to understand that Justice Kennedy is savvy and strategic, because he makes other Justices curry his favor,” Schiff wrote in the June 29, 2007 blog post. “But again, what does that mean? It would seem that Justice Kennedy is (and please excuse the language) a judicial prostitute, ‘selling’ his vote as it were to four other Justices in exchange for the high that comes from aggrandizement of power and influence, and the blandishments of the fawning media and legal academy.

He won French cinema's highest award, a Cesar, in February for the music to "In the Forests of Siberia". He also wrote the score for Japanese director Naomi Kawase's "Radiance" which was nominated for a Palme d'Or at this month's Cannes film festival. Composition aside, Maalouf has a passion for the spontaneous. He is the artistic director of m'IMPROvise, a June festival in Etampes near Paris, with Quincy Jones' protege, pianist Alfredo Rodriguez, topping the line-up. He has gathered hundreds of people for joint improvisations, including at the 2015 Fete de la Musique in Paris. "To improvise with others is to share a unique moment that will never happen twice," he said. Nephew of leading Lebanese writer Amin Maalouf, a member of the Academie Francaise, the trumpeter says he does not try to make his music popular. "I write music that awakens a feeling in me that makes me happy.

I spoke with crew members whose comrades had been massacred by the incoming terrorists who then became known as the White Helmets in East Aleppo for example but also in other areas, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Idlib. None of this is being reported and now we are heading towards the abyss of war and this terrorist affiliated group has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. I appeal to you as someone with such standing and eminence in the media world, in the world at large, please would you highlight this story. If the White Helmets win the Nobel Prize it will bring with it such credibility, not only for the group, but for the entire illegal war effort and US hegemony globally. The war against Syria is underpinned by the propaganda provided by this group of White Helmets, who knows what they will be used for in the future. I speak to you as a journalist, one who believes in presenting the truth not a two dimensional version of it that serves only to amplify state narratives….

Watch Scott Pruitt defend his claims on Fox News: Pruitt was nominated for the EPA position by Donald Trump, even though his office had sued the EPA at least 13 times prior to 2017, attempting to evade their Waters of the United States rule and Clean Power Plan. Pruitt has referred to himself as “a leading advocate against the EPA’s activist agenda”. “Pruitt is not correct in saying that warming has leveled off,” stated Santer. “It hasnt in any of the satellite data sets, and indeed, in older and newer versions of the three satellite data sets, we judge the most recent warming to be statistically significant — to be larger than the warming that our current model-based estimates tells us that we should see due to internal variability alone.” The dispute underlines the danger of politicians being at odds with scientific research. Many people believe that all decisions made by the government, especially regarding the environment, should be soundly backed by research.

Critics called the new Sachin Tendulkar biopic "hagiographic" but fans of the Indian cricket legend loved the work that hit screens amid nationwide fanfare on Friday. "Sachin: A Billion Dreams", directed by Emmy-nominated British filmmaker James Erskine, brought out throngs of fans from the first day. It has real footage of the right-handed batsman who made his debut for India in 1989 aged just 16, but its claims to reveal the more intimate side of the icon did not impress reviewers. "Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a well-made effort, looks good, but when you reach out for something insightful, your hand closes on air," Indian Express sports journalist Sriram Veera wrote. "It's the dumbing down that makes you sigh. It's a movie (docu-feature) that you would take your kids to ... The real disappointment lies in the absence of any insights," Veera added.

Thursday’s appeals court ruling contained one minor, almost technical victory for the president: The 4th Circuit said the district court should not have issued an injunction against Trump himself. The majority said that is only proper in “the rarest of circumstances” and was not appropriate in this case. However, the distinction is of no practical help to the administration because the injunction remains in effect against the major government agencies and officials involved in carrying out the order, including the State Department and Department of Homeland Security. All of the judges who voted to uphold the injunction are Democratic appointees, except for Gregory, whose judicial pedigree is more complex. He was nominated to the court by President Bill Clinton in 2000 and installed on the court via a recess appointment later that year after the Senate failed to act on his nomination.

’” In addition to Thapar, Trump has nominated 10 prospective judges to the lower courts. Two in particular could trigger a partisan battle over the so-called blue slip rule — a long-standing custom of the Senate Judiciary Committee that says the panel will not advance a judicial nominee without the consent of both the candidateshome-state senators. The committee’s chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), said recently that the blue slip rule would be much stricter for district court judges that cover just a single state, rather than the more powerful circuit court nominees that span a broader region. And other Republicans agree, despite comments earlier this month that signaled the GOP would stand by that tradition. “I like the blue slip tradition as it pertains to district court judges, but I never thought it applies to circuit court,” said Sen.

ICFF 2017 marks the collection's debut and it's pretty remarkable. Looking to ancient Egypt and the Nile River for inspiration, the Ibis sofa is what Crews imagines would live in an Egyptian palace, while his Lilypad chair rests upon a low table, much like when a blooming lotus flower emerges next to a water lily. Then there are the Float tables and Aire benches that reference the rocks and pebbles you find along the Nile's shore. All in all, Crews has now accomplished an almost impossible trifecta of producing successful work from three completely different arenas. Us in the design world? We're really lucky to have him join this team. Much like Terry Crews, Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and musician Tift Merritt had found success in another genre before she officially stepped into the design world. When you reframe it though, the North Carolina native has been crafting songs much like an architect creates a building or a painter paints a picture.
