Apple recently removed its first-generation iPod nano replacement program from its support website , over five years after it started. MacRumors contacted a few Apple Authorized Service Providers that confirmed the program has indeed ended, and we were advised to contact Apple directly. Apple's support team initially informed us the program is no longer in place, but a senior AppleCare advisor honored the program after we escalated our request. In other words, if you still have a twelve-year-old iPod nano , you may be in luck still, but it could take some persistence to reach the right person. The replacement program was launched worldwide in November 2011 after Apple determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the first-generation iPod nano may overheat and pose a safety risk. The manufacturing defect is limited to iPod nano models sold between September 2005 and December 2006. But, it won't be a Trump Cabinet secretary, since none of them have been confirmed yet. It will be an Obama appointee. He said there was no word from the White House on who that will be. Todd then asked an expert if the line of succession switches to the new presidency at noon. The former director of the Continuity of Government Commission, John Fortier, explained that there are two lines of succession, one that is already in place and one that will not be in place until the inauguration is over. ... And one which really won't be in place until Donald Trump is inaugurated, comes into office, and actually formally nominates and the Senate confirms his people, Fortier said. You might actually end up with a president from the prior administration because of a tragedy. Since Secretary of State John Kerry will be officially out of office on Friday by noon, and Rex Tillerson, Trump's nominee to head the State Department, will not be confirmed by then, the person to take over the position could be Obama appointee Tom Shannon, the undersecretary for political affairs.

Inside, it offers high levels of comfort and an absolutely striking design with technology that rivals that of high-end models way outside the Stingers expected price range. Those two engines I just mentioned, well there’s already word of a diesel powertrain being available for European customers. And, while it hasnt been officially planned or confirmed, interviews with Albert Beirmann – the Executive VP of Vehicle Testing and High-Performance Development for Kia – has said that there have been talks of electrification, a move that could pit the Stinger against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 or even the Model S, depending on how much electric muscle Kia can come up with. Beyond that, the Stinger is said to be able to handle much more power than that offered by that Biturbo 3.3-liter, so an even brighter future could be on the horizon for Kia’s new halo car.

Reuters Iran and China will sign a $3 billion contract next month to upgrade Iran's oil refining capacity, according to Iran's Mehr News agency. Iran’s deputy oil minister Abbas Kazemi said in Tehran on Tuesday that the deal will focus on upgrading the Abadan oil refinery, Mehr said. “Last week, China officially opened the financing for the plan to fix and improve the quality of the Abadan refinery,” Mehr quoted Kazemi as saying. Iran's refineries are in a state of disrepair after years of sanctions which prevented access to parts and new technology. The deal is expected to be signed when a delegation of Chinese oil officials visit Tehran next month, Kazemi said, according to Mehr News. (Reporting By Babak Dehghanpisheh; Editing by Susan Fenton)

On Thursday, the German Federal Cartel Office said it has officially closed its investigation because "there was no further reason to continue." "The European Commission welcomes an agreement to end all exclusivity obligations concerning audiobook supply and distribution between Amazon's subsidiary Audible and Apple," the EU competition authority said in a statement. "With the deletion of the exclusivity agreement Apple will now have the opportunity to purchase digital audiobooks from other suppliers," Andreas Mundt, president of the German cartel office, said in a statement. Back in 2015, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association began its complaint by saying that Apple and Amazon were "abusing their dominant market position" with the audiobook deal. In total, more than 90 percent of all audiobook downloads in Germany are made through Amazon's Audible service, or via iTunes, making the pairing of the two companies particularly troublesome in the eyes of the association.

Ten years after it was first revealed to the world, the original iPhone is now officially useless. In smartphone years, a decade is positively ancient so you probably deemed your original iPhone useless long before now. However, now that AT&T has shut down its 2G wireless network the final metaphorical crack has crossed the screen and made it official. Even if youre one of the few people in the US who do still own an original iPhone and you kept it in good enough condition to boot up and use every now and then, your curious practice will have to come to an end. Moving on At&T has been planning to shut down its 2G network for four years now and its confirmed that it officially happened as 2017 rolled in. The network is clearly following a "new year, new me" plan as the 2G shut down was done to open up the resources for AT&T to begin expanding into its 5G wireless network.

At first, the idea was to build castles along every Roman mile, with two turrets in between each. "At some point after the first few years of building, they decided they would go and build forts on the wall," Frances McIntosh, curator of Roman Collections for English Heritage, told the Evening Chronicle in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. "Under the wall, you can see the line where the turrets were being built. That's how we know the decision was changed. We do not know how, why or when, but it’s after a couple of years - at least - of the building." When was it built? McIntosh estimates the work began around the year 122AD, when Hadrian visited Britain, and was completed by 138AD. The Romans had left - officially - by 410AD, but many stayed and probably lived in the forts along the wall. "Most officers were recalled but some soldiers just stayed there. They might have formed militias and lived in a farming economy on the wall, living in forts," she said.
