Before the Oscar ceremony on Sunday, The Salesman, was screened in London’s Trafalgar Square thanks to the request of London Mayor Sadiq Khan who referred to the ban as "cruel" and "shameful." "At a time when people are talking about travel bans, I want to welcome people…At a time when people are motivating communities to divide, I want to unite them," he added. According to Khan’s office, around 10,000 people took part in the screening, which was also the film’s UK premiere. "Despite our different religions, nationalities and cultures, we are all citizens of the world. I'm very proud to be a member of this global family. I'm sorry not I'm not able to be here with you but I will be there in spirit," said Farhadi in a recorded message played at the beginning of the film. A man is fighting for his life this morning after being mowed down by a car in south-east London yesterday morning. He is one of five people hurt after a Mercedes mounted the pavement near Catford bus garage. Police have arrested the driver, but have confirmed the crash is not terror-related. Actors Keira Knightley and Dominic West were in Trafalgar Square yesterday, and not at the Oscars, as they joined thousands of people for the UK premiere of the Oscar-nominated Iranian film The Salesman.

TeleSur | We believe there is no best country, best gender, best religion or best color,” the directors of the five Oscar foreign films nominees wrote in a joint statement. Thousands of people braved London's winter drizzle on Sunday for a screening of the Oscar-nominated movie that has become a rallying point for opponents of U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration policy. Hours ahead of what looked set to be the most politicized Academy Awards for years, London Mayor Sadiq Khan made clear his political motivation in hosting the British premiere of the The Salesman, whose Iranian director is boycotting the Hollywood ceremony. President Trump cannot silence me, Khan said to cheers from the crowd gathered in Trafalgar Square. We stand in solidarity with Asghar Farhadi, one of the world’s greatest directors.

Emilia Marty is the kind of operatic role most sopranos would kill for. She is, first of all, supposed to be a celebrated opera singer. Second, she entrances practically any man who comes her way. And oh yes, shes more than 300 years old. All that nearly makes up for not having a decent aria. The central figure in Leos Janaceks 1925 opera The Makropulos Case, which received its belated Asian premiere last week in a highly effective 2015 production by the National Theatre Brno,...

After previous efforts by the media and other vested interests to stop the controversial film Vaxxed from being shown in the UK, where it was originally going to be screened by the Curzon Cinema chain in central London, Vaxxed successfully premiered recently at a London University. To avoid any possible further attempts to prevent the film from being screened, attendees were not given the address until two hours before. Tickets sold out in 24 hours when they first went on sale, proving that censorship only heightens our desire to access information. The packed auditorium was filled with parents, practitioners, doctors, concerned individuals, and a few members of the press, along with special guests Brandy Vaughan (Merck whistleblower), Dr. Jayne Donegan (the doctor who beat the GMC ), Dr. Andrew Wakefield ( Vaxxed s producer), Christina England (world renowned vaccine journalist), Kris Gaublomme (EFVV), Jackie Fletcher (JABS), Phil Diaz (Cinema Libre) and Anna Watson (ARNICA UK).

The 24th season of Top Gear is scheduled to premiere on March 5 in the U.K. and March 12 here in the U.S. We already know the details to that. What we still dont know, or have little knowledge about at this point, is whether or not this new iteration of the show is going to better than the disaster that was last season. It is pretty funny that our expectations have dramatically dropped in a season’s time, but that just points to how bad season 23 was for the show and the BBC. But things are now looking up for Top Gear , and if this new trailer is any indication, the hit motoring show could be rounding into form at just the right time. It’s safe to say that Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid will never have the same kind of chemistry that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May had. Last year’s host, Chris Evans, tried to dip his hands into that barrel, only for the barrel to blow up in his face.

The backdrop? An ancient temple. It is the biggest movie premiere this country has ever seen. The director, Angelina Jolie, says the film speaks to this nation's people. I'm not here because I'm a director who wanted to make a movie. I'm here because 17 years ago, I came to this country and fell in love with its people, and learned about its history, and in doing so, I realised how little I actually knew, in my early 20s, about the world, so for me, this country was my awakening.

Just to be clear, getting that interview with Angelina Jolie, were their deals or conditions? No, there weren't, we had done some work with her last year, I think she trusts the BBC to deal with the material in the film sensitively and proportionately. We were able to agree with her that we would go and get some access to the film and its premiere which we felt would be of value to the audiences and would be of interest to the audiences and what we have seen from the statistics and the viewing figures and the online figures have confirmed that.

Frankly you could hardly have made more fuss if it was the second coming. A lot of people would say that it would not have been done without her celebrity at all? I think her involvement in the film is certainly passed of the news story. Certainly the Cambodian government including the king who attended the premiere was very publicly being associated with it and we felt because we don't get to go to Cambodia very often, that actually that told us something editorially interesting about how other countries coming to terms with what has happened in the past.

Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast , one of the most-anticipated movies of 2017 , hits theaters March 17. Here's everything you need to know ahead of the premiere. The film has a star-studded cast . Emma Watson plays Belle and Dan Stevens inhabits the Beast. Luke Evans will fight like Gaston while Josh Gad portrays sidekick Le Fou. Kevin Kline will also appear as Belle's father, Maurice. Emma Watson is aware of the common critiques of the plot. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly , Watson defended Belle's relationship with the Beast, which some say encourages women to stay in abusive relationships. Its something I really grappled with at the beginning; the kind of Stockholm Syndrome question about this story, she said. Thats where a prisoner will take on the characteristics of and fall in love with the captor.
