At least that's the takeaway from Google's Android Security Year in Review , the latest update on the company's ongoing plan to get phone makers to adopt security updates more quickly. SEE ALSO: It's time to start thinking about what Google will name Android O While Android fans often cite the amount of choice in Android devices as one of the main draws of the platform, the fact remains that this continues to be its biggest weakness as well. Ev Williams wrote at the start of 2015 that he was taking Medium in a new direction because ad-driven media on the internet was "broken." The future? Subscriptions. "Medium will remain the best place to share ideas that matter and to find independent voices and fresh perspectives for free. For members, it will get better. For $5 per month (introductory price), you'll get two upgraded aspects..." he wrote in a blog post published Wednesday. Those aspects are a new reading experience that Medium has yet to roll out (and will feature a select list of curated stories), along with better content thanks to a pledge to give all subscriber money, for the first few months, to writers and publishers on its platform. After that, the subscriptions revenue will split between content creators and Medium in an undisclosed way. Read more... More about Business , Journalism , Digital Media , Medium , and Business

Nest makes some of the best camera products you can get, and they're tied into a lot of Google's services like Assistant. The problem, they're expensive and rarely go on sale. You can get a modest, but appreciated discount on the Nest Cam Outdoor at Newegg right now. It takes the price down to $159.99. As this is the outdoor cam, it's weather resistant and comes with different mounting options. It does still need a power source, so you'll need to be able to run a cable to it from someplace inside or outside the house. On April 21, Chelsea Clinton will receive an award from Variety honoring her work with Alliance for the Healthier Generation, which works to empower kids to adopt healthy eating habits. The award, announced on Wednesday, is called the Lifetime Impact Award. This is because it is presented in partnership with the TV network Lifetime. Unfortunately, some too-eager Twitter users, then journalists, then whole outlets The Hill , Heat Street and Death and Taxes , to name a few did not make this connection. Instead, they pushed the idea that Clinton was winning a (lowercase) "lifetime achievement award" at the age of 37. This instantly incurred the wrath of critics, particularly surprise! those who do not like her anyway. Read more... More about Twitter , Chelsea Clinton , Watercooler , and Watercooler

PETALING JAYA: AmBank Research believes the appointment of Axiata Group Bhd’s Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly as the new CEO of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) could ease the possible consolidation of Axiata with TM. “As Shazalli was formerly with the Axiata group, the changes at top management ease the path to a possible consolidation with TM,” the report read. The research house said given the fact that Axiata was formerly a part of TM and demerged in 2008, it opines that the possible remerger would only be a reintroduction for the bulk of the two companiesemployees and leadership, and could significantly reduce the usual management dysfunctions arising from a textbook merger case. Shazalli, who is currently the CEO and corporate executive vice president of Axiata Group, will step into his new role on May 1, following the retirement of outgoing CEO Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa on April 30.

San Francisco is the best and not just because I'm a native to the city by the bay. It's the center of tech, innovation, art and creativity. Don't forget its geographic beauty and easy access to world-class wine, food and nature. But even I have to acknowledge that my hometown and surrounding area, famously known for its startups and giant Silicon Valley companies, is also an unsustainable rental market. SEE ALSO: How Tim Ferriss, Pat Flynn, and Mimi Ikonn hack their lives in 5 minutes a day Because it's so expensive to settle down here, one tech company is taking a new approach to the high cost of living.
