His recent trip to Saudi Arabia was a classic case of just that. Gone were the election campaign denunciations of the Saudis for their human rights record and for possibly being behind the 9/11 attacks, as well as of Islam as a religion that hates us ; gone was his criticism of Michelle Obama for not wearing a headscarf on her visit to Riyadh (Melania and Ivanka did the same), and of Barack Obama for bowing to a Saudi king (he did, too). Out the window went his previous insistence that any self-respecting American politician must use the phrase radical Islamic terrorism, which he carefully avoided. And none of this was different from, say, swearing on the campaign trail that he would never touch Medicaid and then, in his first budget, offering plans to slash $880 billion from that program over the next decade. Admittedly, Donald Trump and yes, that's the first time Ive used his name, but there was no need, was there? has yet to appoint his horse (or perhaps his golf cart) as a senator or, as far as we know, commit acts of incest in the tradition of Caligula , the first mad Roman emperor.

The Chicago Cubs started the 2016 season with a sparkling 25-6 record before ultimately overcoming 108 years of frustration with a World Series title. This year's version has the 25 in the win column but an uglier 24 in the loss column. "Please, go ahead and freak out," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said when asked about fans' concerns with his team's slower start, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com. "If you want to freak out, freak out." Rogers noted Maddon was trying to emphasize there is no panic in the clubhouse even if the Chicago faithful are feeling uneasy after the team's three-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers . Reigning National League MVP Kris Bryant didn't seem particularly concerned with the team's place in the standings on May 28, either, per Rogers: "I don't see any reason to worry, especially given what we did last year. There is no need to worry.

President Trump has been bragging about the massive Saudi Arabia arms deal since he got back from last week's overseas trip, with a contract in hand for $110 billion in immediate sales, and in excess of $350 billion over the decade. First he's going to have to fight Congress, however . The ever-worsening humanitarian crisis in Saudi-invaded Yemen, and the very real concerns that the US supply of arms is being seen international as tacit involvement have led to a minority of figures in Congress, but a growing one, opposing previous arms deals. This time, resolutions are already in the works in both the House and Senate, with an eye toward blocking parts of the sale that are particularly related to the Yemen War. Growing encourage from human rights groups and skepticism about making the Saudis, with their sketchy human rights record, recipients of a record US arms sale, are likely to add to the pressure to vote against the sale.

Miami Heat president Pat Riley knows a little something about the greatest players in NBA history considering he coached Magic Johnson with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped bring LeBron James to Miami. Riley said Saturday he was impressed with James' seventh straight trip to the NBA Finals but urged fans not to forget Johnson's Showtime Lakers made the trip nine times in 12 years, per TMZ Sports . Riley and Johnson are close beyond just their connection as former player and coach. Johnson is the new Lakers president and said on ESPN Los Angeles he's talked to Riley as he moves into the front office (h/t Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post ). With the NBA Finals not starting until Thursday, there has been plenty of conversation comparing James to some of the all-time greats, most notably Michael Jordan since the King surpassed the North Carolina product in all-time playoff scoring during the Eastern Conference Finals.
