KUALA LUMPUR: McDonald's Malaysia will be investing RM1.4 billion in the next nine years as part of its expansion plans. For starters, RM363 million has been dished out for the next three years, which will see 33 new restaurants coming into shape, while 86 more will be remodeled and some 2,000 new jobs created, said McDonald's Malaysia managing director and operating partner Azmir Jaafar. Last year, Saudi Arabia's Lionhorn Pte Ltd bought over the rights to McDonald's Malaysia and Singapore as the Developmental Licensee. Azmir said a big portion of the investment will come from McDonalds' own international generated funds while an undisclosed portion will come from Lionhorn. McDonald's recorded a year-on-year revenue growth of 16% in 2016 and is looking to repeat this with a double digit growth in revenue and profit this year. However, the value of the revenue and profits earned was not disclosed owing to the company's status as a private company.

When it comes to marketing your company, one of the topics most people want more information about is goal setting. The reason is that they believe knowing how to set goals is the key to success. I can understand that. With all the talk about goals, most are quick to jump on the goal-setting bandwagon. When I did a little keyword research on the topic, the phrasegoal settingreceived more than 12,000 search queries (according to SEM Rush ). However, “how to achieve goals” got a mere 1,000 searches. Hmm … something’s wrong here. FACT: Setting goals wont actually help you accomplish anything. No matter how specific you are, regardless of how you format each statementwriting down goals will leave you in the same shape you’re in now unless you purposefully take action. Otherwise, you simply have a sheet of paper (or a Word/Google doc) full of wishes.

The average lifetime of a PsH molecule is just 0.5 nanoseconds. Light takes about 35 microseconds to arrive from a transcontinental jet and its contrail. Credit: Bob King In our everyday life, the light from familiar faces, roadside signs and the waiter whose attention you're trying to get reaches our eyes in nanoseconds. But if you happen to look up to see the tiny dark shape of a high-flying airplane trailed by the plume of its contrail, the light takes about 35,000 nanoseconds or 35 micro seconds to travel the distance. Gordon Moore's original graph, showing projected transistor counts, long before the term "Moore's law" was coined. Moore's original observation was that transistor density doubled every year; in 1975, this was revised to doubling every two years. (credit: Intel) Intel took half a day this week to talk about processor manufacturing technology. The company still believes in Moore's Law and says the principle will continue to guide and shape the microchip industry. But the way the law works is changing. The company also wants to change how people talk about manufacturing processes, because current terminologywherein the node size is used to characterize a particular process—no longer serves as a good guide to how many transistors can be packed into a chip. Moore's Law—the observation by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit would double every two years, and correspondingly, the cost per transistor would halve over the same time frameguided microchip manufacturing for around three decades.

Shoultz recommends entrepreneurs find partners who can be a bridge into the global health arena. "It may be that the entrepreneur truly does have a brilliant idea and it's already available in a different setting," he said. Organizations like PATH and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation can help filter and shape ideas, along with facilitating important industry connections. Cost is another important consideration for entrepreneurs. Medical technologies developed in high-income countries can be less accessible to those in middle- or low-income countries, which is why Shoultz advises entrepreneurs to keep prices as low as possible. For example, PATH's drug for soil-transmitted helminths will sell for $0.06 to $0.07 cents a tablet. "To be honest, there are comparable drugs that are even a little bit less expensive than that," noted Shoultz, "We're constantly trying to think of, OK, how could we make it even a little bit less expensive.
