PARK CITY, Utah There's a scene in Tokyo Idols where Rio Hiiragi, a pop star trying to make it big, bikes to small provinces as a publicity stunt to meet her fans. She's wearing a cute yellow helmet and live streaming her trek. Trailing behind her are a handful of older men. They are her biggest fans. The documentary premiering at the Sundance Film Festival spotlights the world of young female performers "idols" who dress like anime characters and sing and dance for adoring crowds, even though many aren't very good at singing or dancing. It's more important for idols to be cute and tender to fans than sing well. Read more... More about Tokyo , Movie Reviews , Sundance , Movies , and Entertainment

6 billion in the less fortunate half of mankind. This year's results are jaw-dropping, showing that just eight of the richest people in the world own as much combined wealth as half of the human race. Part of the way in which Oxfam bases its results is by incorporating Forbes's annual list of billionaires, and the magazine's estimates of their wealth. New data gathered by Credit Suisse was used this year regarding the global poor, which led it to lower its estimates of their assets, and ultimately edit its findings about how few rich men were required to balance the wealth of 3.6 billion people. It is obscene for so much wealth to be held in the hands of so few, Oxfam executive director Winnie Byanyima said in a statement. Across the world, people are being left behind. Their wages are stagnating yet corporate bosses take home million dollar bonuses; their health and education services are cut while corporations and the super-rich dodge their taxes; their voices are ignored as governments sing to the tune of big business and a wealthy elite.

We’re binging on the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending January 21, 2017. It’s not a bad week, all things considered, especially if you liked last week’s songs. Number 5: Bruno Mars "24K Magic" Let’s open in fifth place, where Bruno Mars holds steady with “24 K Magic.” Bruno has a Filipina mother, and rumors were flying that he’d be in the Philippines to sing at the Miss Universe pageant on January 30. Unfortunately, Tourism Undersecretary Kat DeCastro says that’s not the case. Mars is busy preparing for his world tour, beginning on March 28 in Antwerp, Belgium. Number 4: The Weeknd Featuring Daft Punk Starboy" The Weeknd and Daft Punk slip to fourth place with “Starboy,” two weeks after finally hitting number one. The Weeknd has been seen out and about with Selena Gomez, but the web site Hollywood Life reports that he wants to keep the romance low-key.

What we're sing at the moment, is that the level of hyper partisanship, is really unprecedented. Senators in Capitol Hill and house lawmakers used to get on with each other despite the parts and differences, but we don't get that to the same extent any more.

People have aspirations as individuals and also for their social unit. Have you ever been to a football game or other 'sacred' ritual where people dress, paint their face, eat and drink, sing, chant and play music in the proper manner to appease the universe and bring success to their in-group (and disaster to the out-group)? The original sin of communism and totalitarianism is not respecting the individual and private property; the original sin of libertarianism is not respecting the drive to identify and find meaning through an in-group, 'something bigger than me'. 3 If you think this is an easy problem, think again. Refactoring is a bitch. Some argue the 2nd Ave Subway costs more because it had to go deep below all existing infrastructure. If one entity owned all the buried infrastructure, you wouldn't dig up the road one week to fix electricity and the next to fix water, you would presumably do everything in one shot, or redesign an integrated subway/water/gas/electric/telecom package and have something more maintainable that saved money.

We are so used to sing Mark Selby in good form, whether it is imperious or great fighting form, it is a shock to see him a bit underpowered. If he has come into some bad form, the fascination is how does he dig himself out of this hole. Every time you go to the table it is a new test.
