It is fitting that President Obama would bookend his official press conferences with an unscripted comment and nod to his mixed-race heritage. Obama had originally campaigned for the presidency, in part, on the complexity of his racial background. As the brown-skinned son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, he offered his candidacy as the symbol of hope and harmony for our country. I was elated by his message as a woman who is also mixed-race and who grew up lonely in my silence about my own racially and culturally complicated background. We live in a country that subscribes to the one drop rule which insists that one drop of "black" blood defines you as black. So, there wasn't room in America's imagination in the 1980s for a young woman with brown skin and blue eyes to be both black and Danish, fully Afro-Viking. I was black.

His children were born in South Korea and he gave his first son a Korean name, Sejun. It became more difficult, however, to maintain his approachable lifestyle after a knife wielding ultra-nationalist Korean assailant attacked and wounded the ambassador in March 2015 while he was attending a forum on Korean reconciliation near the U.S. embassy. The assailant later said he attacked the ambassador to protest the ongoing U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises, which he saw as an obstacle to the unification of the two Koreas. Lippert was slashed seven times in the face, arms and hand, but his wounds were not life threatening. He still has some lingering damage to the hand that blocked the knife.

Stranger Things season 2 story At the annual BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party, some of the cast and crew were on hand to disclose a few details on what's brewing for our heroic young whippersnappers. “Season 2 is bigger and potentially darker in its stakes,” said director and executive producer Shawn Levy. “The threat, which in Season 1 was to Will Byers, has grown. That’s all I’m going to say! But, I will say Season 2 has a bigger cast and is definitely loyal to the kind of magical storytelling that we established in the first season. It’s character-based and still about our core group of characters.” What's also clear is that Noah Schnapp - who played Winona Ryder’s missing son Will in the first season - is going to be around a lot more in season two, as he's been upgraded to a series regular.

By returning to older forms of political resistance, social activism might also regain grassroots support and find a new voice in the process. At least, that's what we hope. Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrives at a European Union leaders summit in Brussels, December 15 2016. Francois Lenoir/Reuters Jonathan Rynhold: Hope for Israel, concern over Iran and Syria We should see a generally positive tone toward Israel from Donald Trump, but there are very large questions about what the administration's policies will be on the substantive issues affecting the country. For example, his son-in-law Jared Kushner has been tapped to deal with the peace process . He has no background whatsoever in this area, and we have no idea what his positions might be. Regarding the settlement issue, my sense -- in contrast to what the settlement movement believes -- is that the administration is not necessarily pro-settlement.

Of the 690 political jobs that require Senate sign-off, Trump has nominated just 28. It is likely that Trump will spend his first weekend in power with just two Cabinet secretaries confirmed. Many of the fellow Republicans who will attend the speech have been left to rely on scattered hints about how the Trump era will begin.
