LAUSANNE: North Korea will no longer host the Junior World Judo Championships due to security concerns, the International Judo Federation (IJF) said on Thursday. Pyongyang had been due to host the event in October but that has now been switched to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. The IJF said the move had been forced because of the "alarming" situation the reclusive communist nation finds itself in on the international stage with tensions growing in particular with the United States, which has sent a missile defence system to South Korea amid concerns about the North's nuclear ambitions. "There are some outstanding issues like air accessibility of Pyongyang, safety and security of participants and their belongings, communications with the outside world, possibility of live streaming etc," said the IJF, which had held meetings with the North Korean sports ministry.

Now onto the powertrain. The driver will have an option of three different driving settings all-wheel drive, all-wheel drive sport and a 100% rear-wheel drive setup. All can be switched with a touch of a button. As we already confirmed, the 7-speed DCT is being replaced by an eight-speed automatic transmission with a P button and larger in size than the current transmission and speed shifting paddles. The steering wheel gets the typical M1/M2 button, in red aluminum, fixed separately on the steering wheel, similar to the Formula 1 steering design. The V8 4.4 liter TwinTurbo engine will produce slightly over 600 horsepower and will go from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds. BMW will unveil the new F90 M5 towards the end of this year, followed by a market launch in early 2018. The article New details on the upcoming 2018 BMW F90 M5 appeared first on BMW BLOG

"[Printed] books provide an opportunity to step away from that." This'll come as unpleasant news for Amazon, which is said to be planning yet another revision of its Kindle epaper ebook reader. The company is rumored to have a waterproof Kindle in the works which would be a distinct advantage of its paper competition. It's not the end of the line for digital readers entirely though "digital sales" were up 6 percent overall, and professional books including periodicals and academic journals, were up 6 percent too. It seems then that we're still happy to sit in front of a screen to learn and work, but are increasingly valuing a "switched-off" leisure time. Best Kindle which eReader should you buy?

There was smoke and more than a hint of fire when Godspeed joined the list of black bookers with his fast finish into fourth behind Young Empire on Wednesday night at Happy Valley. A lightly raced son of Savabeel, Godspeed had displayed a little ability at his trials prior to racing but, on debut, the David Hall-trained gelding was slowly away in a Happy Valley 1,200m and never a factor. Switched to Sha Tin second-up, Godspeed was again outrun over 1,200m and giving all the signs that whatever...

The assumption was that a few minor tweaks to the 2017 BMW 440i Coupé wouldn't make much of a difference. It turns out they do It didnt start well, our drive from Munich to Austria in the updated BMW 4 Series. Like the preceding weeks in the UK, apparently Deutschland had experienced an equally balmy run-up to Easter, so snow was the last thing on anyone’s mind. Yet snow it did, and in the midst of the blizzard, a brilliant display of German ingenuity ensured that the whole fleet of press cars was swapped onto winter tyres before our Airbus A320 pilot had pulled up the handbrake and switched off the seatbelt sign. The press conference began with some disappointingly mundane facts about the new car. New lights, they said, front and rear. New bumpers, too, plus new leather colours, body colours and even a new steering wheel. Yippee, but if we’re honest, test driving a new bumper didnt really seem worth the horrendously early start.

A child's risk of obesity as they grow up can be influenced by modifications to their DNA prior to birth, a new study has shown. These changes, known as epigenetic modifications, control the activity of our genes without changing the actual DNA sequence. One of the main epigenetic modifications is DNA methylation, which plays a key role in embryonic development and the formation of different cell types, regulating when and where genes are switched on.

A LONG dictatorship ended in a negotiated transition to democracy. The centre-left took office with a moderate programme, reassured the right by pursuing pro-market economic policies, added better social provision and reconnected the country to the world. Power later switched to the right, which persuaded the country that it had become democratic. Then the centre-left returned, this time as a new generation critical of the compromises of the transition. It veered further left but faced economic difficulties. Spain? Yes. But Chile, too. Since the dictatorships of Generals Franco and Pinochet, politics in the two countries has run along uncannily parallel tracks, with Chile lagging Spain by ten to 15 years. In Spain, Felipe González, the Socialist prime minister in 1982-96, laid the foundations of democracy, combining liberal economic reforms with a new welfare state and leading the country into Europe.

There were a lot of businesspeople who were in favor of Britain leaving. A lot of people in the City were in favor of Britain leaving. On the whole, it was the more entrepreneurial City firms that were in favor of Britain leaving, as opposed to the big established banks and brokerage houses and so forth, who on balance were in favor of Britain staying. I think that now the debate has moved on a lot. It’s been helped by some of Mrs. [British Prime Minister Theresa] May’s speeches and by the triggering of Article 50. It’s now pretty clear that we are leaving; accordingly, business opinion has switched from trying to operate as some sort of rear-guard action to realizing that it’s going to happen. Obviously, there’s a difference of opinion. There are still some business leaders, including some in the City, who are a bit concerned and they want to make sure that we get the softest of soft Brexits.

This is partly down to the Mercedessuperior traction, which allows you to make better use of the available performance for more of the time, particularly when the roads arent dry. And while the AMG’s steering isnt as quick as the Alfa’s, it’s better weighted and offers more feedback. Yet it’s the Mercedescomposure over twisting and undulating roads that impresses. It’s less affected by bumps than the Giulia, which can skip and slide over broken surfaces, even when the stability control is switched on. Turn the systems off, and the Mercedes is more approachable. Image 24 of 33 Image 24 of 33 The trade-off for this reassuring control is a firmer ride, even with the adaptive dampers in their softest setting. However, it’s far from uncomfortable, and in combination with low levels of wind and road noise it makes the C63 an effortless and enjoyable cruiser.

The flat-plane crank V8 uses a dry sump lubrication system and a stop-start function is included for the first time on a McLaren. The gearbox is the familiar seven-speed twin clutch unit, or Seamless Shift Gearbox in McLaren speak, driving the rear wheels through an open differential. The engine and gearbox can be switched from Normal mode into Sport or Track to improve response and cut shift times. The 570S manages 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 204mph. Image 10 of 26 Image 10 of 26 Technical highlights Like all McLarens, the 570S is built around a very light, stiff carbon fibre tub. Called MonoCell II, the chassis is similar to that of the 650S but it’s been adapted to improve access to the cabin – the Sports Series is billed as an everyday sports car rather than an occasional use supercar, after all. Notably, 80mm has been trimmed out of the sill height to ease ingress and egress.
