Outside of Soon’s everyday studies, he uses his Surface to do presentations and helps tutor middle school students in math and science. After he finishes his Ph.D. program, Soon plans to take a well-deserved break and hike the Appalachian Mountains trail with his twin brother for the second time. Soon really appreciates how much his Surface Pro 4 has helped his studies. The power, versatility and portability of a Surface is something he struggled to find in an alternative laptop. “Without the Surface Pro 4 my life is at a standstill. It touches the very corner of what I do, how I’m immersed in my academic life and communicating with the world around me.”

Weekday mornings in our household are much like any other household with teenagers. Waking teens, outfit planning, rushing around to gather laptops and to find shoes. At 7 am, the bus pulls up. We walk our daughter onto her special education bus, make sure she's seatbelted in, and wave goodbye. Each day, we sent her off to her public school, where she joins other students like herself in a specific program for students with cognitive/intellectual disabilities. Her classroom is bigger than the average classroom because it needs to contain things like a swing for sensory input, a cushioned platform for when they need to lay down, room for wheelchairs, plus desks and tables and cabinets. Peer tutors - students from the traditional classrooms of this school - come in and help tutor my daughter and her classmates, which in return, teaches the traditional students what life is like for my daughter, and give them insights they otherwise wouldn't have had.

Woody Harrelson is officially joining the cast of the upcoming Star Wars standalone film centered around a young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) , and Mashable got a chance to talk to the Hunger Games star soon after the casting news broke on Wednesday. Details about Harrelson's Star Wars role are scarce, but the actor confirmed rumors that he'll be playing "a mentor to Han," telling Mashable that his character is "also a bit of a criminal." Much as Obi-Wan Kenobi schooled Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force, perhaps Harrelson's character will tutor the young Han Solo in the finer points of being a smuggling scoundrel. Read more... There are wise words being exchanged among women these days - ask your smart big sister to show you her role models at LeanIn and Ellevate - and there's no reason you shouldn't strive to build your own network. Female mentors are the gold standard - find one if you can. But, of course, role models come in many forms and the key is recognizing the right one at the right time. Whomever you select, remember that there is a difference between a mentor and, say, a private coach or tutor, in that mentors find mentorship relationships rewarding on their own. They remember what it was like in the early days of their careers, and are usually delighted to welcome others to the stage. Or the field. Or the lab. You get the idea. The point is, you don't have to pay a mentor - they just expect you to pay it forward someday and mentor somebody else. #HowToBeAMentor Stop laughing.

4.) Things you want to learn After teaching college test prep for a while, my second successful freelance business that I quickly scaled to over $100k was a web design company called Primal Digital -- and guess what? I barely knew anything about web design in the beginning! The idea started on a whim. I'd already had a bit of success with my first business as an SAT tutor, and I was looking for something that I could do from my house. I was not an expert by any means. I knew just enough to get a basic one-page site up on Wordpress and that was about it. It's almost embarrassing to think about as I type it now. I set up my web design company's one-page website with a very fancy theme to give the appearance that I was much more established than I actually was...and proceeded to start posting on popular freelance job boards like Upwork (Elance/oDesk at the time) and a few others.

Sophisticated programs can adjust to each student’s needs and pace, like a personal tutor. Teachers can get real-time feedback on what students are struggling with. Plus, video game animations can be so adorably entertaining. Kids love them. Nesra Yannier reacts to student responses during an experiment at Forest Grove Elementary School (Jill Barshay) Several years ago, after obtaining a master’s degree in learning design and technology at Stanford University, Yannier had misgivings about her career path. “Most technology is so isolating,” she said. “I didnt want that.” Yannier was deeply affected by a robotics competition in her native Turkey, where she coached underprivileged students to build and program a wheelchair. Her team won, and the motivating power of group work left an impression on her. She didnt want to spend her career designing software that would result in students sitting silently with headphones in front of computers.

If you want to watch a young Queen Elizabeth II hiring a tutor as the Soviet Union tests its first hydrogen bomb, you have to tune into the bejewelled Crown on Netflix. But if it is the latest season of Transparent — of a parent coming out as trans — that is on your must-watch list, then you must log in to Amazon Prime Video. The post television battle for eyeballs has just heated up in India. Netflix’s video-streaming service was available in around 50 countries till January 2016 when it added another 130 countries, including India, while China was left out. Amazon Prime Video, Netflix’s biggest competitor, was in just five countriesUS, UK, Austria, Germany and Japan — when last month it finally caught up with Netflix in terms of global footprint, with China missing from the list again. That is where the parallels end. An Indian subscriber has to pay Rs 500-800 a month to Netflix, while she can get Amazon Prime Video for an introductory price of Rs 499 a year.

You could run a YMCA program, a summer daycare, teach dance/art/languages; work at the pool, or be a private tutor all while enjoying your salaried teacher benefits. She hadn't heard of this either. I finish with: and if you're interested there are two other routes; one is administration where you could be a curricular specialist or principal and two, you could earn your master's degree or doctorate and teach college courses in elementary education part-time or even full-time with a career change. My young student had never heard any of these options and her father had never explored them with her--probably because he had not thought of them either. I get it. This is no one's fault, really. Can you blame the father? He's looking at a pretty hefty college bill depending on his situation; and he's not unlike family support systems and college payers across the nation.

Anything Is Possible Kevin stayed in school, graduating from elementary and middle school. He celebrated street fairs on holidays such as World Childrens Day. I want kids to laugh and play safely in the streets and forget their poverty and the crime around them, says the boy with a ready smile, the boy who bears the scars of violence and sometimes goes to sleep hungry.

He died shortly after, lying on the road. The coroner said the cause of death was a head injury, as she recorded a narrative verdict. She said Halcyon Theuri was struck a glancing blow by the car while lying in the road and though the taxi driver, Alan Bramley, didn't see the 21-year-old, an observant driver should have seen him. She concluded that Mr Bramley's vehicle's faulty de-mister, lower visibility on the road tutor heavy rain, and a lack of signal from Halcyon Theuri as he lay on the road all contributed to his death.

CAREER progression is something one would always look forward to – be it the perks or the increase in pay as well as the title that comes along with it. But the promotion comes with additional responsibilities at work. For SEGi University vice chancellor Prof Dr Patrick Kee, helming the post as VC of the institution since the beginning of this year is not only a challenge, but something he personally took upon himself to ensure that the university would reach higher standards in Malaysia. Prior to helming the position, Kee was the deputy VC (of academic) of the university since July 2012. But his experience in the tertiary education goes way back to 1985, when he began teaching, as a resident tutor, in Queen's College, University of Melbourne in Australia. Aside from teaching, Kee, who graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial with First Class Honours) and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne, had worked as a plant engineer and worked his way up to become a production planner in Ericsson Australia Pty Ltd between 1989 and 1993.

Both have created a strong, opaque barrier between the mind and the Truth it is seeking. The only way to know the Whole Truth and free humanity at last is to launch a great rebellion against them both. The keys to this are twofold. One is the territory. If Islamic State continues to hold territory they can get hold of these children and tutor them in their perverse dark and warped ideology but that message cannot just be defeated by the military alone. You also need deradicalisation programmes to counter it as well.

This also applies to dozens of other programs in poor, inner city neighborhoods that mentor, tutor, and provide family support services to these youth as well. The bulk of these programs are run on a shoe string budget and are one step away from closing their doors. Other than Brown gushing over Trump, there was stone silence from Trump about what, if anything, he had to offer in return for the black lovefest. That's even more strange since Trump never tires of boasting that he's a negotiator. So, if Brown, and the other blacks that flock to him do some hard bargaining with him to get his administration to commit to specific programs to aid the black poor and black businesses, then meeting him makes some sense. This will have put Trump on the record and on the spot to deliver on the commitment. If he reneges he will be shown up for the congenital liar that many lambaste him as.
