The war on drugs waged by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has taken more than 7,000 lives since its inception. It took the killing of a South Korean businessman by police to prompt President Duterte to formally apologize. And while he suspended the offensive, the killings have continued. Now, the Catholic church and other faith groups have recently begun to fight back. The initiative, collectively referred to as Rise Up, intends to stand up for human rights, give financial aid to victims, and document the killings. “What we need is a cure and love. Not condemnation. Not execution,” Carmelite Father Gilbert Billena, a spokesman for the Rise Up group, told VICE News Correspondent Seb Walker. The church has a great deal of influence in the Philippines and it has been questioned why it took so long to mount its official opposition. Some clergy members, such as Reverend Jerry Bongcawii, do not object to President Duterte’s initiative.

SEE ALSO: 'Lego Batman' has a lot of fun mocking 'Batman v Superman,' but there's no beef there In the musical, as with Lego Batman , Batman (Joe Walker) learns to make friends, to love and appreciate Robin (Nick Lang) and Alfred (Chris Allen). TRIPOLI, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The bodies of 74 migrants have been found washed up on a beach near the western Libya city of Zawiya, a Red Crescent spokesman said on Tuesday. Mohamed al-Misrati said the bodies had been recovered on Monday and that the migrants appeared to have died during the past two days. The migrants were all adults, mostly from sub-Saharan African countries, and all but three of them were men, Misrati said. Libya is the main departure point for migrants hoping to reach Europe by sea, and the bodies of those who drown attempting the risky crossing are frequently found washed up on Libyan shores. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. JAMIE Walker's 150th appearance for Hearts will not be one he looks fondly back on in years to come. The 23-year-old, kept in reserve at first in an apparent nod to Wednesday night's Scottish Cup replay against capital rivals Hibs, climbed off the bench in a bid to salvage three points against basement side Inverness Caledonian Thistle but saw his 75th-minute spot kick saved by Owain Fon Williams as the Highlanders claimed a priceless point on this awkward bobbly Tynecastle pitch which could yet breathe new life into their survival hopes.
