It's time for everyone's favorite game: speculative engineering! An anonymous reader wrote to our tips line asking how the levitation system of the STORY clock is accomplished. We took a look and can tell you right now... that's a really good question! STORY: The Levitating Timepiece has more than a month left on its crowdfunding campaign but it's reached more than 6x its $80k goal. The wooden disk has a digital time display in the center which is simply an LED matrix just below the wood's surface. We know how that's done: wooden veneer with a grid of holes behind to contain the LED light in a perfect circle. The part that has everyone so excited is a levitating orb that makes a circuit around the face of the clock. It would be easy to guess how it works if this was simply sitting flat on a table (which it can do). But it's further complicated because it still works when hung on a wall.

Hi Guys, My name is Shane and I am a first time poster, new to the forum and wanted to start a work log on my upcoming build in Thermaltakes Core P5. Its around 3am here and I have been drawing up some draft sketches and non scale drawings on my graph pad to render some ideas for how this things will go together. Concept: Create an infinity effect as the back plate of the Core P5, but not just the surrounds but accent each component with its own infinity effect. The idea will be to place a new back plate over the existing case, add in the infinity effect using mirrored acrylic and component platforms to accenting each component. I haven't decided if I want to use MDF or Ply Wood or rather a combination of both. Follow this post to stay up to date! System Specs; Thermaltake Core P5 ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 K6 Gaming Intel i7 6700K EVGA Geforce GTX 970 FTW+ ACX2.

European nations, including the UK, are making a grave accounting error that will result in the emissions of more planet-warming greenhouse gases, according to a new report from an independent London think tank. By counting the burning of wood pellets from felled forests in the U.S., Canada and Russia as a "renewable" or "sustainable" form of energy, nations in the European Union are masking their full impact on the environment, the report warns. The study , from Chatham House, comes as European officials debate policies that favor particular energy sources, including biomass energy such as wood pellets, as a way to cut planet-warming carbon dioxide. Yemeni security officials say a suicide bomber killed at least eight soldiers Friday at a security base in the southern city of Zinjibar. The bomber, disguised as a driver delivering a load of wood, blew up his vehicle at the gate of the Yemeni military base after failing to get inside. Heavy gunfire ensued as other assailants tried to enter the base, injuring 10 others. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but a military source said al-Qaida has carried out similar attacks in the area. Southern Yemen has been the target of a series of suicide bombings by extremist groups as the Yemeni government has failed to restore security after pushing Houthi Shi'ite militias and allied forces out of the south in 2015.

Swiss design studio Diiis Designstudio has switched gears a bit since we last saw them two years ago with their convertible backpack, Manta . Now, they're unveiling a few new designs but this time on the furniture and home furnishings front. Each of their products serves a basic function with added details that display clever twists. GITO / HATO are a pair of side tables that are easily put together with a simple screw system. The two wooden tabletops have a metal plate embedded allowing you to set a drink down without having to worry about it leaving a ring on the wood. HAWU is a bookshelf or a bar similar to the above tables. A metal frame holds three wooden shelves, where you get to choose between a half circle or a metal angle. The angle becomes a bookstand to help contain your stuff on the shelf, while also fastening it to the stand. S IM / SALA / BIM are a trio of glass vases where you have the flexibility of displaying a single stem or an entire bouquet with the help of the mirrored plates.
