I used a flat sheet of aluminum, cut it into a circle, and cut out everything except the spokes. I then made wooden quarter circle pieces, they arent bent, but instead I cut the wood in the shape of a semi-circle, then bolted those to the aluminum plate, and sanded it so it’d be a nice rounded contour for your hands. It’s actually a really comfortable wheel. I used a Marine Spar Varnish on the walnut wood. It came out very pretty and has a UV protector in the varnish so it should hold up good over the years. We copied what we saw in some of the old cars, that’s why we went with a four-spoke wheel. The diameter was as big as I could make on my mill, 15-3/4” to be exact. It’s one of those details, that man and machine interface where you actually touch it, it’s nice to have wood. Like the stock of a gun, that sort of thing. We made the glovebox door out of the same piece of wood.

It's always interesting to hear what Robert Crumb has to say about notable people , alive and dead. In the latest installment of "Crumb on Others," Alexander Wood asks Crumb about Castro, Lenin, and Trump. Crumb: Yeah, but I would watch him and find him so offensive, so obnoxious and hateful. How could anybody just looking at him and watching his behavior think for one second that he’s anything but a sociopath!? I just couldnt imagine how anyone could think he’s a viable candidate for the presidency. On the other hand, Bernie Sanders who was out actually speaking some truth – I thought he was great. You see that’s what happens when you get a politician who actually tells the truthnope, can’t have him. The Democrats made sure he didnt get nominated. They reaped what they sowed, the Democratic Party operatives, when they fixed it so Bernie would lose the primary votes in New York and California.

' The problem with this: radiocarbon dating uses dendrochronology to calibrate itself, and dendrochronology has a few problems of its own. Dendrochronology is dating things by examining tree rings. Trees lay down rings season by season. This growth varies according to prevailing conditions. If enough is known about the age of the tree, its location, conditions, etc, the wood can be used for dating. Problems: there are not many trees that are old enough; there are not many trees of the same species; wood from buildings may have been lying around for a long time, may have been reused, etc. It turns out that dendrochronologists have been using written sources to help correct' their timelines 9 . This might be a problem if we want to use dendrochronology to correct a written source. Another way to check the date of things is to go by the stars, which are not susceptible to falsification by ambitious emperors and clerics.

I think this is an important step—to consider the other ways that policies actually affect people beyond health and health care access. This can change how we see ourselves and how we interact with our communities, too, McKay says. You can't participate in social life and civic engagement without having health first, right? The National Science Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded the work. Source: Vanderbilt University The post How health insurance binds neighbors together appeared first on Futurity .

From the custom tubing to the paint-splattered step ladder, the room has a subtle current of antique industrial chic. A large black lamp ensures that the room will receive enough light after dark and changes a simple table into an ideal place to work or study should the need arise. A small table and chairs set doubles as a dining space and a work table. Two different types of wood also make it a unique aspect to the room. An independent black cabinet divides the bedroom from the living room, affording the bed area a measure of privacy, by separating the bed from the living area. This is a good idea for a person with an active social life. A light sofa with wooden legs ties into the natural feel of the room reveals more floor space, and doesn't clutter the room. The bedroom is located to the side, from the right to the left so that the more direct line of sight is focused on the living area.

The Chicago Cubs will enter the 2017 season as marked men, looking to undertake the uphill battle that is repeating as World Series champions. Just three times in the last 30 years has a team managed to win consecutive titles, as the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000 and the Toronto Blue Jays won it all in 1992 and 1993. The Cubs have the talent to join that exclusive club. Even with the departures of Dexter Fowler, Aroldis Chapman, Jason Hammel, Jorge Soler, Travis Wood and a handful of others, it's hard to find a hole in the roster without nitpicking. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo will once again anchor a dynamic young offense, while the trio of Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta and Kyle Hendricks atop the rotation stacks up to any staff in baseball. The bullpen lost one of the game's best closers in Chapman and replaced him with another in Wade Davis, and the relief corps as a whole looks deeper than it did a year ago.

We also just launched a policy that will ensure the companies we buy wood-fiber-based packaging from make their products responsibly. Of course, we can't do all these things by ourselves, if only because we don't grow most of the crops we trade and ship - we buy them from farmers and other companies. That's why, in our actions to stop deforestation, we have always placed a special emphasis on collaboration. To get where we're going, we are working with governments, NGOs, business partners and - most importantly - farmers around the world. Take Paraguay, for instance. The country is a significant exporter of soy beans, which account for half of its agricultural output and 12 percent of its GDP. We already had years of experience in making the soy trade more sustainable. Ten years ago, we were one of the founders of the Soy Moratorium in Brazil, which contributed to an 80 percent drop in the rate of deforestation in the Amazon and was recently extended indefinitely.
