Common sense tells us that learning how to swim is essential for children but the sad thing is that in Malaysia, no one seems to bother about this. Let's just hope that the WASC won't drag its feet any longer in implementing its action plan of promoting water safety awareness in a holistic and comprehensive manner. Malaysia's foremost sports administrator Datuk Sieh Kok Chi sent me an emotional note in reaction to the latest drowning tragedy last Friday. Sieh, who stepped down in 2015 after being Olympic Council of Malaysia secretary-general for 23 years, said over the years he had written letters to a number of ministers of youth and sports on the need to teach swimming to schoolchildren so that they can at least save themselves. "Unfortunately, they are all very busy and as such they have no time to think over this matter let alone consider my proposal," he said.

Making this clear became a huge priority for the new copy. Analytics User Journey Mapping HubSpot's internal team consulted their analytics data and user journey maps and confirmed that clarity was an issue. Conversion flows were tangled as leads struggled to understand what they were signing up for. We needed to simplify the path from interest to action. Copy Audit As HubSpot grew rapidly, the copy on their website was written by multiple people with multiple perspectives. This caused style guide inconsistencies, a lack of unified positioning and an inconsistent voice across the site. This was our chance to bring consistency to HubSpot's messaging and showcase their solutions in words that clicked with their customers. Now, we just needed to find out what those words were. Conducting Customer Research To tell a persuasive story that your leads can see themselves in, you need to understand four things about them: Pain points: The challenges and frustrations they face Anxieties: The obstacles and fears that keep them from buying Desired outcomes: What success looks like for them Priorities: Which pain points, features, and benefits are most important to them Instead of guessing at these things, why not just steal the words right out of their mouths? Customer research is all about capturing your customer's challenges, fears and desires in their own words so that you can use those same words in your headlines, body copy, and calls-to-action.

Honourable friend. It's a hallmark of his character that he stands below the bar of the House today. My judgment is that he or she speaks for the whole.

Billionaire J.B. Pritzker, an heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire and who was named one of the wealthiest people in the world this week, once pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of writing a “worthless check.” Court records obtained by POLITICO show that Pritzker, who is exploring a run for Illinois governor, pleaded guilty in 1986 to a misdemeanor count of writing a bad check. The check was written in June of 1986 for the amount of $60.46. Two years later, he was charged with writing a bad check for an even smaller figure: $17.72, records show. The charge involving the second check, written to Big Star, a grocery story chain at the time, was dismissed. The second charge came in 1988, but records show the check was written in July of 1985. In a statement to POLITICO, Pritzker, through a spokesperson, accused a potential gubernatorial opponent of planting a story about “two checks totaling $78 dollars that were accidentally written 30 years ago while JB was in college.

Director Rupert Sanders has said there'll be more action in his movie than the more philosophical anime movies and series, but from the snippets of footage we've seen so far, Ghost In The Shell appears to be remaining true to the spirit of the original stories. Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano and Juliette Binoche lead a sterling international cast. 26. Tulip Fever Anyone who collected comics in the early 90s will know what an asset bubble is: everyone goes nuts and buys into the next sure-fire deal, only to see the value of what they're buying collapse as the market becomes over-saturated. Well, centuries before investors were frantically buying copies of X-Force , a similar air of fervour surrounded tulip bulbs, of all things. Tulip Fever , written by Tom Stoppard and directed by Justin Chadwick, tells the story of a 17th century couple who buy into the exploding market for tulips - which the Dutch were punting out all over Europe for inflated prices in the 1630s - only to see the sales plummet like a piano down a mineshaft.

Two years ago, when Garry Kasparov, the chess champion turned political dissident, began to warn that Vladimir Putin sought to undermine liberal democracy—not only in neighboring countries, but all over the West—he was widely written off as a crank. After Russia managed to hack the servers of the Democratic National Committee and spread fake news on an industrial scale, his warnings were finally recognized as all too prescient. But it is only over the past weeks, as journalists around the world have broken dozens of stories about Russian meddling in the democratic process, that the sheer scale of this effort has become apparent.
