I could go on analyzing Trump's lies and his Neofascist code words. But you get the picture. He and his billionaire cabinet are the natural leaders of the white Volk of Amerika, so much so that they are The People. Unlike the racialists of the 1930s, he will allow some individuals from the minorities along for the ride if they are ideologically aligned with the real Americans. He is going to kick out the cosmopolitan, half-breed traitors in the name of America First (not being a historian of the United States, it was only about a decade ago that I discovered how ugly these seemingly admirable phrase is). And he is going to run down all of America's beauty and achievements and causes for pride so as to pull the wool over the eyes of The People and get them to back him in a new, authoritarian coup government for the United States one where de facto most of the Bill of Rights are abolished except for the Second.

Jason Momoa is the type of guy who will talk about throwing tomahawk one minute and the next, admit he always does the dirty dishes at his wife's request. He'll talk about the beauty of naked branches in the winter while a daunting, blood-covered rubber apron -- a prop, he later explained -- hangs above his head. He'll show you his handcrafted knife collection and later confess his aversion to hunting for pure sport.

Before we close up shop for the week, I wanted to send us off into this momentous weekend with some uplifting artwork by Sara Wenokur that celebrates color and life. So many people in our community are traveling to participate in marches across the country tomorrow, and I want to wish everyone (marching or not) a safe weekend and safe spaces in which to speak up and make your voices heard. So much of what we do here at Design*Sponge is about providing inspiration and a safe space to find your voice, both literally and figuratively, and I applaud everyone who is taking steps toward becoming more involved in the world and systems around them. No matter your viewpoint, all points of view and all constructive conversations (and debates) will always be welcome here. I know this site is a respite from life's difficult moments for so many people, but I hope we can continue to be a place where we embrace the beauty and creativity in life while still digging deeper to understand the things that make it complicated and challenging.

Beauty and skin-care products often have a similar goalto defy age. When it comes to personifying that concept, skin-care brand No7 has chosen the ideal spokesperson: Alessandra Ferri, who was the youngest prima ballerina at Londons Royal Ballet at 19 and is still dancing professionally at 53. Ferris remarkable feat is celebrated in No7s campaign produced with Mother London and Mother New York that launched in the U.K. earlier this year and in the U.S. this month. In the captivating video, which is helping launch the brand in the U.S., Ferri, who was 52 when the ad was shot, dances beautifully on stage at the Royal Ballet with a hologram of her 19-year-old self performing alongside her. Ferri, who retired after 22 years as a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre in 2007, came out of retirement in 2013 and performed in a production of Romeo and Juliet at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York last summer.

Our editor, Sebastian, finally achieves self actualisation through technology. (credit: Sebastian Anthony) A Chinese app which allegedly makes selfies look more attractive—or more like an anime character, at any rate—has a dark secret: it demands permissions for far more personal data than it needs, including users' IMEIs, phone numbers, and GPS coordinates. Meitu, an app which has been out for years on both iOS and Android in China, has shot to fame outside the country in the last few weeks, due to the "beauty" filters it can apply to people's selfies. Among other functions, it can sharpen people's jaws, put a sparkle in their eyes, and smooth out and lighten their skin. The result? Meitu-filtered pictures are suddenly everywhere. The backlash, however, has been just as swift. Read 7 remaining paragraphs | Comments

Its effective because its dramaticlarger than lifebut also actually useful. Someone in the audience might realize that he or she should seek a clear goal (like Anabels wedding dress) or explore new forms of exercise (like Carolines running) to see what clicks. These arent just before-and-after photos; theyre real, relatable people living complicated lives that sometimes put them through the wringer. To be fair, the result is still plenty reductive. The approaches Weight Watchers lays out here wont necessarily work the same for everyone. Its easer for some people to gain and lose weight than others. And what it means to be healthy, including self-esteem, isnt the same across different types of bodies. In other words, by advertising around conventional notions of beauty in the first place, Weight Watchers cant help but be predatory, to some degree.
