When it comes to tuning your BMW 2 Series, you can’t go any more hardcore than what the guys from AC Schnitzer are proposing with their ACL2 model . Their heavily tuned BMW M240i is a proper beast, no matter how you look at it. Developed initially as a sort of exercise to see just how fast the F22 chassis can go, the small Coupe can apparently not just look pretty but also go pretty fast. The German tuner wanted to showcase how fast the ACL2 really is and to do that, they invited a few for a test drive and a power lap around the company’s traditional testing ground, the Sachsenring track. The outcome left everyone baffled. The AC Schnitzer ACL2 not only managed to post a decent lap time but it somehow ended up being faster on it than a proper supercar such as the Lamborghini Aventador SV or SuperVeloce as its full name would go. That’s a super-rare 750 HP special edition of the Italian variety, a car that has a price tag known to cause shivers and all sorts of weird reactions.

It just shoots lasers at people's eyes. Needless to say, please, don't try this at home, or at all. Designing such a diabolical beast was actually rather simple. The software is written in C#. Frames are captured from an old Logitech webcam, then passed into Emgu CV , which is a .NET wrapper for OpenCV. [Michael] runs a simple face detection algorithm, and uses the results to aim a laser. The laser is mounted on two R/C style servos. An Arduino forms the glue between the servos and the PC. [Michael] has a great deadpan delivery and it all makes for a great video. Think of him of a younger [Medhi] over at Electroboom . But we can't condone this behavior. Properly labeled and characterized red laser pointers have never been shown to cause eye damage . Yet if the laser is out-of-spec or reflects of something that further focuses the beam it is certainly capable of damaging eyesight.

As we’re patiently waiting for the new BMW M550i xDrive model to reach showrooms and eventually our driveways, some people around Europe are already enjoying it. The first ever M Performance 5 Series sure is fitted with everything it needs to put down some serious numbers on paper but what is it like in real life? The F10 M5 was a proper beast, as well, but no matter how good the numbers looked like on paper and how fast the car really was on the road, it still had one major pitfall: its exhaust note. Admittedly, it did have some pretty big shoes to fill, having to replace the majestic 5-liter V10 of the E60 M5 but even so, the acoustics of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 could’ve been better. Now that we’re waiting for the new F90 M5 to come out, everyone’s wondering if the engineers managed to make the latest revision of the S63 engine under its hood sound any better.

We've asked Google for comment on Burger King's marketing stunt, and will update this story if we hear back. Home invasion This isn't the first time Google Home has responded to a prompt on TV; during this year's Super Bowl , smart speakers were inadvertently set off when people in a Google commercial said "OK Google". And this also isn't the first time the speakers have been used for promotions; recently some Google Homes reminded users the film Beauty and the Beast had opened in theaters, though Google maintained this wasn't an advertisement. And while Burger King may not have gotten the exact response it wanted with its ad today, the story has generated as much buzz, however negative, as the company could have asked for. This does, however, set a worrying precedent for other marketers who may try to take advantage of Google Home as well as Amazon Echo's inability to distinguish different users' voices.

Okay, Google, this could get annoying. A new ad from Burger King sets out to trigger Google Home and Android devices with the company's signature prompt. "Okay Google, what is the Whopper burger?" a fast food employee asks in the 15-second spot. SEE ALSO: Google Home is now playing unprompted ads for 'Beauty and the Beast' For anyone with certain Google-powered gadgets in the vicinity of their television, that sentence will cue a digital assistant to spit back the text of the Wikipedia entry for the menu item. The campaign is one of the first to harness the power of the voice activation of smart home devices, and it was made without Google's involvement. Read more...
