NEW YORK: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba was suspended for two games by the National Hockey League on Monday for an illegal check to the head of Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone. The 22-year-old American elbowed Stone as he was looking away with 6:42 remaining in the third period of Winnipeg's 3-2 victory at Ottawa on Sunday. Stone was sprawled on the ice and taken to the locker room. Trouba, who was assessed a minor penalty for the blow, will forfeit US$33,333 in salary. The Jets have 28 wins and 61 points from 62 games, one point behind Calgary for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff berth with 20 games remaining. The Senators, with 31 wins and 68 points from 57 games, are sixth in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of Florida and Boston in the final East playoff positions. — AFP
