US actor Will Smith – one of the most bankable stars in the world – is to sit on the jury of the Cannes film festival next month, its organisers said Tuesday. The former hip-hop star, 48, who made his name in the teen television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has been nominated twice for an Oscar. He will decide the festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or, with a nine-member jury that also contains fellow Hollywood star Jessica Chastain and the Chinese X-Men actress Fan Bingbing. Having missed out twice on an Oscar despite being one of the favourites in 2001 for his portrayal of the boxer Muhammad Ali in Ali, the Cannes call is another remarkable twist in the story of a rapper who had become one of Hollywood's key players. Other big names on the jury include the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, best known for La Grande Bellezza and his hit television series starring Jude Law, The Young Pope.

Police in Hong Kong have arrested and charged several pro-democracy activists over their involvement in a protest against the Chinese government's intervention in the election of two pro-independence lawmakers last year. Nine people were taken into custody Thursday morning local time for their involvement in the November rally outside Beijing's liaison office in the territory, according to a Facebook post by political party Demosist, two of whose members were among the nine. The protest resulted in authorities using pepper spray and batons against protesters who charged a police barricade. Charges include inciting disorderly conduct, unlawful assembly and obstructing police officers. Those arrested were subsequently released on bail , and will appear in court on May 5, the party says. Avery Ng of the League of Social Democrats, who was among those arrested, wrote on Facebook that it was the third time this year that police had taken him from his home into custody.

Meanwhile, Salman’s mother, Fatina, said that her daughterreceived the news smiling and with her head high.” Salman’s sentencing is the latest in an Israeli crackdown on young Jerusalemite Palestinians, many of them women, who have been accused of involvement in attacks, while Israeli authorities have ordered lengthy prison sentences for Palestinians as young as 14 years old in both East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank. Some of the harsher sentences to be handed down in past months include a 35-year sentence to a 22-year-old Jerusalemite for allegedly assisting in a deadly stabbing attack, 16 years in prison for a 19-year-old Palestinian woman who was shot and injured while allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli settler, while a Palestinian youth was sentenced to 18 years in prison for allegedly throwing a rock at an Israeli vehicle that caused the death of an Israeli representing the harshest sentence ever handed down for stone-throwing.

External development works include roads, water supply, sewage and drainage systems, electricity supply transformer, substation, solid waste management and disposal or any other work which may have to be executed in the periphery of, or outside, a project for its benefit, as may be provided under the local laws. Similarly, internal development works would mean roads, footpaths, water supply, sewers, drains, parks, tree planting, street lighting, provision for community buildings or any other work in a project for its benefit, as per sanctioned plans. Not all could be specifically there in all projects but as a buyer, one needs to ensure these are met by the builder if they were part of the plan.

What’s it like to drive? It should come as no surprise to read the new 911 GT3 is sensationally good to drive. The steering is precise, well-weighted and feelsome, making it one of the very best electrically-assisted setups on any car, anywhere. It does lack some of the tactile patter of the hydraulic systems fitted to older GT3s, but, crucially, it gives you a clear impression of how hard the front tyres are being worked and it allows you to place the car on the road with millimetric precision. The smaller 360mm steering wheel is a big improvement on the larger item in the previous car, too, while the optional bucket seats are brilliantly supportive and comfortable even over longer journeys.

It can do much good without much effort on your part. Specific strategies and examples Now that we’ve established that adding internal links is the technique you want to implement, let's get into the specifics of it. One way to implement this strategy is to link to some of your most popular posts as well as your homepage. Even Google suggests doing this: I recommend looking over your analytics to see which posts received the most engagement (clicks, shares, comments, and so on). Then include these on your 404 page. Doing so can increase the number of pages on your site that get indexed, boosting your SEO. And it totally works. In fact, I used this very strategy a few years back when I was working with TechCrunch. Within 30 days, I was able to boost their search traffic considerably (9% to be exact). Add a search bar This is an incredibly simple feature, but it’s one that can have a tremendous impact.

Other quibbles include the lack of a Lightning cable in the box, and no iPhone clip, but such gripes feel churlish. Where it matters, Nimbus delivers and at a very reasonable price point. As such, its TechRadars recommendation for the best MFi games controller available today. Verdict The SteelSeries Nimbus is easily the best MFi games controller for Apple TV and iPad. It only really falls short for use with an iPhone, due to the lack of a clip.

The company has recently held discussions with payments industry partners about introducing its own Venmo competitor, according to multiple sources familiar with the talks. The service would allow iPhone owners to send money digitally to other iPhone owners, these people said. The unnamed Apple payments service would include a major partnership with Visa, according to the sources, allowing users to obtain digital pre-paid cards that would run on Visa's debit network but be tied directly into Apple's peer-to-peer service, and could also be added into Apple Pay. In this way, users could get paid through so-called "Apple Cash" from a friend, and use the Visa card and Apple Pay to spend the money at a retail location or online, "without having to wait for it to clear to their bank account." The peer-to-peer platform is being looked at as a way to boost Apple Pay adoption and usage, which Apple itself has admitted to be slow over its first two years, but which the company believes to be on the path to replace cash and cards.

One of Street Fighter V 's latest DLC stages, Thailand Temple Hideout (from Street Fighter II ), was pulled off the marketplace because of its background music yesterday. The music behind the Buddhist-themed stage contained Islamic prayers not something Capcom intended. The Islamic prayers in the stage's background music were translated by a Muslim Redditor who goes by Venom44 . According to them, the lyrics include references to Allah and the line "By the name of the God, the most merciful." Capcom did not say that the specific religion was the reason why the stage was pulled, just that the music contained "unintentional religious references." It was likely pulled due to incongruity between the Buddhist imagery and the Islamic music. Read more... More about Street Fighter , Street Fighter V , Capcom , Esports , and Gaming

Per contra Israel’s Jewish working class is the most reactionary section of the Israeli-Jewish population. The Marxist idea that the working class is the gravedigger of capitalism only applies in situations where the major cleavage in society is between those who live by their labour alone and those who live by exploiting the labour of others. However, there are certain capitalist societies where life is not so simple. In these societies ethno-nationalist or based on racial supremacy, primarily settler-colonial societies an alliance forms between the ruling class and its ethnic counterpart in the working class. Such examples include the deep south of the USA, where the white working class saw its main enemy as the black working class. It is a situation repeated over and over again in the white dominions of Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

Radiohead once issued a statement saying: ‘Without the work of organisations like Amnesty International, the Universal Declaration would be mere rhetoric’. You’ve clearly read Amnesty’s reports, so you’ll know that Israel denies freedom to the Palestinians under occupation, who can’t live where they want, can’t travel as they please, who get detained (and often tortured) without charge or trial, and can’t even use Facebook without surveillance, censorship and arrest. In asking you not to perform in Israel, Palestinians have appealed to you to take one small step to help pressure Israel to end its violation of basic rights and international law. Surely if making a stand against the politics of division, of discrimination and of hate means anything at all, it means standing against it everywhere – and that has to include what happens to Palestinians every day.
