Posted by Florian Kainz, Software Engineer, Google Daydream On a full moon night last year I carried a professional DSLR camera, a heavy lens and a tripod up to a hilltop in the Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco to take a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge and the lights of the city behind it. A view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands, taken with a DSLR camera (Canon 1DX, Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 ZE). Click here for the full resolution image. I thought the photo of the moonlit landscape came out well so I showed it to my (then) teammates in Gcam , a Google Research team that focuses on computational photography - developing algorithms that assist in taking pictures, usually with smartphones and similar small cameras. Seeing my nighttime photo, one of the Gcam team members challenged me to re-take it, but with a phone camera instead of a DSLR.

The first two SWAP series have been viewed about 2 million times on YouTube. Started by the Obama Administration, the Better Buildings program looks to spread efficiency to the nations commercial stock, including offices, schools, and city works. Buildings in total account for at least one third of the nations greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases theres good money to be had from the cost savings earned from efficiency upgrades. The U.S. spends $200 billion to operate its commercial property, Vargas says, and frequently older buildings can deliver 20% savings just from doing basic things, like installing better lighting, heating systems, or windows. A lot of organizationswill say theyre energy efficient, but when you probe it a little, you find theyve done one buildingor theyve changed some lights.

It is easy to see why Get Out became a runaway hit when it was released early this year. It is a well-crafted film, an amazing feat for screenwriter and first-time director Peele, who many know as a comedian. Despite the premise being inspired by the socio-political situation in the US, anyone can relate to the film's themes, whether feeling like an outsider in a new place, or experiencing subtle racism from 'well-meaning' people. Get Out owes its success to the performances of the actors, especially Kaluuya, who lights up the screen as Chris, a relatable guy who you immediately feel for as he is thrown into stranger and stranger situations. Kudos especially to Williams, who goes through a range of emotions as Rose, and to Howery, who has some of the funniest scenes in the film, providing moments of levity in an otherwise horrifying story. While I enjoyed how the film took its time building up to its conclusion, the ending did feel a little rushed, and a little too convenient.

Most concept vehicles are largely created because the automaker wants to promote something for future production vehicles. That formula has been tried and tested so many years that it’s become normal for people like us to expect them. Such is the case with Audi’ s new E-Tron Sportback Concept, which is actually promoting a lot of things, not the least of which is the company’s overarching electric crossover agenda. But there is one aspect about the E-Tron Sportback Concept that Audi really wants us to pay attention to. It’s the LED lights, and for what they’re all worth, there are a lot of them. Audi hasnt said exactly how many light emitting diodes the concept has at its disposal, but the front bumper alone has around 250 LEDs that extend from one end of the bumper to the other. More LEDs are located on either side of the grille, including Audi’s actual four rings logo.
